I probably shouldn't post here about this but what the hell

So the right side of my nose is always plugged, stuffed whatever you call it. Sometimes its clear but most of the time its not. The left side is fine though. When I blow my nose I see really thick mucus instead of the normal ones (sorry for being so graphic).

My family doctor told me to get those nose spray but what if they only fix the problem temporary? And I don't want to keep spraying.

Has anyone experienced with this? Is this allegy or something worse that requries surgery? Sinus problem?

Man, you could have really left out some of the details and just said you have a stuffed nose. I read this thread out of curiosity because I suffer from sinus problems too.

Yours could be a sinus problem for which you can try this remedy. It might work, it might not, use at your own risk.

Boil water till it is really really hot. Keep it on a counter somewhere and put a lot of coffee powder in the boiling water and stir. Take a blanket and cover yourself by bending over this steam. Be careful not to spill the water on yourself as that would really really suck.

You will start to sweat a lot and the sinus might clear up. If the steam is unbearable, take a break but try to inhale for at least 10 minutes or so. If it gives you relief, well and good. But never do this more than once a day. You can do this maybe 3 times a week or so but never more than that as it is can't be good to be inhaling coffee steam. It gives me great temporary relief though.

    Take care

Btw, eucalyptus oil works much better than coffee powder when you put it in boiling water but I just mentioned coffee powder as I was not sure if you would be able to find eucalyptus oil where you live.

I have allergies and there's no such thing as only one of the nostrils getting blocked; also, when the allergies hit, you'll probably get other symptoms too like sore throat, itchy eyes, sneezing, etc.

You should go see a doctor - as simple as that.

that might work since if i go work out it seems to be unplugged or not as plugged similiar to sweating using your method. Thank you

I also searched a bit and found spraying salt water seems to be another popular way?

That's what I'm doing now naturally anyway? And that's not really fixing the problem that's just avoiding it.

Sounds like maybe a chronic sinus infection only on the one side (is the mucus a lovely shade of green?).

Wondering why your doc would tell you to use over the counter sprays, as they're not good for long-term use. May be time to see a specialist or at least a different doctor.

Try the breath rite strips for when you are sleeping. If the problem persists you should see a specialist. I saw a procedure on TV called septoplasty. It would be a last resort, but if you are desperate for relief you may want to see if it is a solution to your problem. It is plastic surgery in which the surgeon breaks the nasal septum and repositions it to correct breathing and allow better drainage from the nose.

I had the same problem like one year ago. My nose was stuffed for one year and i didnt know why. I saw a doctor who said that something in my nose was not straight and i was not breathing correctly and wanted me to do a surgery (but as i found from another doctor he was just after my money).
Doctors couldnt give an explanation to this and most of them said that i might had an allergy to something.. After a year my nose cleared on its own and im ok now..

It sounds like it could be a nasal septum deviation

Wrong on the first part, right on the second. I have lived with severe sinusitis, allergies, nasal polyps, anosmia (look it up) and infections for years. I've had 2 nasal polypectomies (second one just 6 weeks ago). The OP could have one or more nasal polyps blocking one side of his nasal passages.

To the OP: Just go see a qualified ENT if you can. In the meantiime, plan on a regimin of nasal irrigation (neti pot), possible use of corticosteroid sprays and the possible need for surgery if polyps are present (trust me it is NOT a big deal if done correctly and with modern procedures such as FESS (again, look it up).

Bottom line: First step is the doctor.

Its probably a deviated septum. My girlfriend has the same problem and she constantly gets sinus infections because of it. She actually had surgery to try to fix it but apparently the success rate was only 60% and she got the short end of the stick. After all the recovery time its not even a little bit better. My advice is just learn to live with it. If its not affected your sleep or daily life you are lucky anyway. Use the saline spray but if it gets really bad you can use Afrin, just don't overuse cause you're body will become reliant on it.

i use alkalol as a nose washing agent, it gives temp relief.

in cali there is a procedure for stuffed noses that is supposed to work well.
i had the link a few years ago.
