Well, for the 1st time I am stumped. I have a 1 month old .info EMD for a keyword with 33k global and 20k local exact searches for 1 term. There is another KW with very similar stats I was targeting as well. I added all unique content as well as images and the content is generally between 350-700 words, I keep it to a minimum of 350 words but do not set a max limit on the content.

In total there are roughly a dozen posts/articles, all unique and another 3 or 4 posts with just images. Each post is backlinked with a small blast of blog posts (around 10 per article), Wiki links(roughly 20), bookmarks and micro blogs then an RSS feed is created and that is backlinked with various links. I also purchased a small PR 1 blog comment package with varied anchors to the home page such as "This site, click here" etc...

Yesterday the main KW went to #5 and the secondary went to #6 but today the main kw took a dive to 75 and the secondary to 66.

What is unusual is that the homepage was ranking on page 1 for the terms and today the homepage is not ranking at all, the pages that are ranking 75 and 66 are inner pages now.

I have used this same method on several sites and this is the only one that has taken a beating like this all of a sudden. I vary my anchor text and keywords, I put all unique self written content on the blog.

The ONE thing I have different with this site is I am promoting a Clickbank product. I put a banner in the sidebar and on the top with my affiliate link in it, I also have 3 posts out of the dozen that discusses the product, again with my affiliate link and one of those is a review post which reviews 2 other CB products, so no matter which they choose I get a sale.

All other posts are general info, tips etc...

I have been able to sort out wild fluctuations like this before due to velocity, or keyword variations, or dup content but never have I seen a disappearing of my page 1 rankings for the root domain when I have been monitoring a site like this.

Could it be the affiliate links? My last entry was yesterday around 3 and it was a new page that I titled "Alternatives" which highlighted the 2 CB products I reviewed, again included my affiliate links. As late as midnight the root url was in the top of page 1 for my main 2 KW's and also on page 1 for a handful of other smaller volume KW's. This morning at 8 am, the root url is bye bye and only inner pages are ranking but way back in the SERPS.

    Thoughts and Solutions?

Something similar happened to me too. It just seems to be google dance.. in a day or two the homepage reapears at the same spot or close to it. Don`t worry for now, I`d say..

Ok, I will hold tight, I have been pretty good with rankings but never selling with affiliate products and I have made around $100 already in a few days starting when the site went to page 2, I am worried it took a dump. LOL

Could be a dance or could be a penalty. The same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago and i discovered it was over optimization penalty. Still fighting for my rankings.
