I would love to get some feedback on this to see if anyone else has seen this. I was looking through some of my competitors backlinks over the last couple of days in a few different niches and noticed something. Some of my competitors were ranking really well with long anchor texts. A couple of sites I noticed that were ranking number one only used multiple keywords in the anchor text.

Something like "Keyword Phrase 1 and Keyword Phrase 2". Here's an example (this is not the niche I checked just an example) Fast Weight Loss and Exercising to Lose Weight.

    Has anyone else seen this?

I haven't checked all my niches this just happen to be 2 niches where authority sites don't dominate the first page. In fact most of these were local niche keywords.

I bought an expired domain that had a lot of links already built. These were relevant to the niche from nice large authority style sites, but the anchors were all KW KW KW KW. While I was writing content trying to rank for those KWs, I never saw SERP increase. Once I started a link campaign with defined anchors, it become a lot more effective... so I have had a different outcome.

I think this may have been an older link style and that you are seeing older links? Just my experience...

    WOW GOOD FIND.

I have been making MAD links to a certain site I own and, for some reason, the links are ranking higher then the money site. I think it is because G is giving more credit to the freshness + the links are "blue widgets is the best" instead of just "blue widget".

Let me change these backlinks and I'll tell you what happened.

I think that longtail keywords are a better option to get high SERP using backlinks instead of short tail ones in the current scenario.

That kinda makes sense as your getting a wider dispersal

They are not longtail keywords that I am referring to but multiple keywords together. In the example I used the anchor would be: Fast Weight Loss and Exercising to Lose Weight

And the site would rank for Fast Weight Loss.

Those are made up keywords for this example. So the sites that I saw ranking were actually ranking for partial matches of the full anchor.

That's what I'm wondering if the anchor text contains your keyword but also contains other keywords will it help with rankings for the shorter keyword phrase? Think of it like linking a title from your site or a sentence as the anchor text.

I haven't really seen that before but since penguin I'm seeing some different things.

I've definitely found that the sites which I've not enough thought about targeting keywords in the anchor text for have survived unharmed.

I can confirm this as I had some pages kicking around on my site that I put together using an SEO trick from the book by Stephen Pierce (Under Oath) 2003

Although my site has been hit badly with the new Google algo. These pages have shot up to page one or two (many at #1 #3 & #5)

It uses the same principle of including three keywords in the title and for some reason IT IS WORKING

After Penguin i am plan, i will focus only on content because that's very important of SERP results, i am try to use Anchor Text only on blog comment. for article submission i am not using Anchor Text that's results also good.
