Hey everyone, I'm really thinking about what should I do? 2 months ago, I agreed to do a site for someone. They paid me 1/3 of the payment to get started. So after 2 months, and I will admit I was so busy, but I worked on 75% it, they told me they needed it asap 2 weeks ago, so I managed to wrap up the finishing touches to it.

Now after I finish it up and transfer it to them (my mistake), they tell me it's horrible, I took a template (which I did, but I customized it, and reprogrammed it as well), and that they are going to get someone else.

But I wasted alot of my time on this project, and the site actually looks really good, I'm not just saying that. I know because I showed them it before I transferred it, and they said they really liked it (over the phone). I mean if they didnt like it, why would they give me the info to transfer it, duh lol.

I really think they are trying to scam me. They changed all their login information on me so I can't get back into their server, but I know better.

If you count my cost after the initial payment, and not including labor, I only netted $3 lol. With labor, I'm at a lost. And I had to pay for things their do not give a refund.

Should I shutdown the site, and request the rest of payment to be handed over, or should I just take it as a lost, and give them the site? I'm at a stand still cause I can shut it down and request my remainder, and they could file a paypal dispute for the initial payment (but it's been over 45 days).. I just really have a good heart, and dont want them to have nothing (caused they payed a little), but I also dont like being ripped off.

But the next day, I was blessed with a event that I made money somewhere else. So I'm just wondering should I just leave it alone, or fight for the rest of their payment. We didnt sign a contract or anything, but I stated in the email how things go down.

I had to pay for other miscellaneous tools and a theme as well. Well over $50.

I just wanted you guys advice?

oh well, Just convince him that you're ready to redesign upto their needs. If he said ok, he might really didn't like your design. But, if he refuse, you're totally ripped off. You can add him on shit list after sending warning to him.

The stuff they are requesting, was not mentioned anywhere prior to being on my server, and some things they are requesting is gonna take a few hours to knock out. I told them I'll do 90% of the revisions for free, but for that additional work that is gonna take a while, to pay me an additional amount, and that's when they went off on me.

I can shut it down from their server, thats no issue, and I really don't want to. I just think fair is fair. I mean I really am on the verge of should I just give them the site, shut it down and do the revisions when the payment is received, or request at least 50% of the remainder payment and call it a truce.

I found it kind of sneaky they change their domain and hosting logins after they sent me that angry email saying they are going to get someone else. My site I did is still on their server. I mean if you were unsatisfied, why still keep the site up, and then wait to tell me after its been transferred, you aren't happy. I showed it to them live on my server prior to transferring.

If they use the site they owe you the money. You should have all the different source documents that you used while building the site stored for future use. In court, all this source data will prove that you worked on the site, and when. They will have no such data to counter the claim that you made the site.

You should contact them and ask that the site you designed be taken down unless your fee is paid, or some other arrangements be made until their new site is ready.

In the future, host the sites you build on your own server, and use a temporary redirect for their domain to take the site live. Tell them to make the payment and you will provide all the material to upload to their servers.

After you get the payment, burn all the site information onto a disk and have it delivered by Fedex or someone who can confirm delivery. This will prove in court that you delivered your product.

It is up to you whether you move the site to their hosting before the disk is delivered, but I never do with new customers. As soon as it is delivered and I have confirmation, I upload the site.

Established customers I cut a little more slack, but I always deliver a disk. I cannot prove someone received a download an e-mail, or that you uploaded a site, but I can prove that disk was delivered.

I want my money and proof they received the work I performed before I remove the redirect.

Well I have emails where I had to contacted the theme developer tons of times cause his theme had issues, and we hammered most of the out. I also took all the stock images out and replaced them, changed pages, added all the services they wanted, and uploaded all their pictures, set up the home page, added the plugins, etc.

I'm guessing I did my part on my end?

I'm willing to reduce my rate, and take care of their revisions, but they extra stuff they want, I really have to charge. It's gonna take a minute to edit the php files.

Also, I doubt I would request paypal to make the payment. These guys might try to file a claim after they pay and put me back in the hole.

Shut the site down, requests for money.

Since it's only $3, you have nothing to lose. The thing that you can't lose is your own PRIDE!

    Your PRIDE is at stake!

$3 is what I netted. It cost $40+ for theme, pictures, internet, phone calls, etc. They only paid me like $50 (plus pp reduce it after fees), so after expenses, plus taxes, barely $3.

Yea, so your total profit is only $3. That's damn sad.

You would be better off getting a real job, that pays $5/hr or something.

    Get your money back -,-

    Buddy,
First, decide yourself what you want?
You are saying you can shut down the website and confront them and at the same time you are saying you dont want to do.. WTF? Where do you need our opinion then?
    You have 2 choices.
    1. You want the money, shut down their website, ask them for the payment and reinstate the website.
    2. You don't want the money, just deal with the situation and move on.

    Everything depends on you.
