I will go to Mainland China (Shenzhen) next month and I will stay there for one-two months.
Since they are blocking Facebook, YouTube and also Google it will make it hard for me to work.

Do you guys know any solution? How did you handle that when you were there?

I was in Beijing last year, only for 2-3 days and almost became crazy without Google, Facebook, YouTube and also some apps on my phone.
Also I had a VPS at this time and couldn't even log in there.

Recently I also heard the chinese government is blocking some VPN's.

I was to china town (lets call it like this) today and let me tell you the truth...they were all eating some strange dishes with their sticks and this food stinks pretty bad. Nothing compared to what we know as "Chinese food" and this Chinese food smell mixed with the cheap merchandise stink created a blend that made me feel sick.

So, after I bought 2 water guns (totalling $2,4) for my kids, my wife wanted to go around a bit more but I escaped through the closest doors.

That food they were eating can be compared to Japanese food that I ate few years ago in some Japanese restaurant in Paris. Food was ...tasteless. But that characteristic smell of this chinese mall cant be found anywhere...I think..

To answer your question. No I havent been to mainland China even though I was invited a few times and some Chinese companies even offered to pay 50% of plane and hotel costs. That was really generous of them, especially knowing that I never worked with them. I guess they wanted to see my beautiful eyes or something.

Its probably themore well known ones, if you create your own using a vps you probably won't have any problems.

I've been to China something like 12-15 times since 2010, and have had mixed results accessing the world in general.
Most recently, I've used proxy.sh, and it works perfectly, albeit a little slow sometimes.

Pro tip: if you're a privileged guest (SPG Gold/Platinum, certain credit cards, etc), some of the big hotels will arrange an 'outside connection' for you, if you ask. I've had this on 2 trips when staying at the Westin on Financial St in Beijing. Don't remember if they billed me for it or not.
