    Hi,

I have put up a new site about 1 week ago and just checked my webmaster tools and found 13 backlinks. I went to these backlinks and they are profile links in websites like world of warcarft and other forum/profile type links.

I have not hired anyone as this is a pure whitehat site. Only about 3 people actually know about this site. How can this be happening?

    Why?

Could be a typo on the part of the guy putting up the links.

May be you bought a old dropped domain name. and the links were built by past owner.

Don't think anyone would do that since everyone that knows the site name doesn't know anything about seo and couldn't even put a link together never-mind finding do-follow profile forums with anchor text

Ok more reading is that my site has been written about in 2005!! on world of warcarft forums. Someone said they could get a special thing in my site that would allow them to do something in the game.

Could this just be a strange massive coincidence?

If people were posting about your site in 2005 it just means that your site is does not appear to be 100% new and the links are probably left over from the last owner.

Well according to that the domain it has been around since Feb 2005

I also checked via http://www.webconfs.com/domain-age.php and it's saying it's 5 years and 7 months old!

I thought I had picked up a new domain via godaddy. I didn't search for it or anything, I knew the name I wanted!

What a result! 6 year old domain for next to nothing!

Well you have a head start for SEO so make good use of it. Google gives lots of value to aged domains so you should rank pretty easy too.

any advice on testing what this domain age can do?

I have just checked via MS my rankings for 1 word which is in my title and domain name and i'm ranked on the 3rd page of google with 1 page and 13 backlinks out of

Page 3 of about 18,400,000 results (0.19 seconds)
