Okay, so I have a Macbook. I'm on a college campus. I have an ethernet connection in my room. I have a wireless router (Linksys). I have two ethernet cables. Those are the facts. There is a campus-wide wireless network that I can connect to from the common rooms. That is where I am now. It works. Firefox works. I'm getting bandwidth on my bandwidth meter. Now, the problem is in my room. I connect to the ethernet directly, which should work. But for some reason, it sets itself to "Self-Assigned IP", and will not connect to the internet. This started last week. So I set up the wireless network and ran the Ethernet through that. And it worked. Left for fall break, took the router and put it in the drawer. Came back, and tried the ethernet directly. No change. Tried the wireless, and it didn't work at all. Changed the Linksys settings, and still nothing. Tried connecting like what had worked before (ethernet jack > cable > router > cable > ethernet port), and it didn't connect. I can still connect to the wireless in the common areas, and the wireless in my friend's room. Looked all over the Internet, and tried everything possible. Deleted Airport preferences/network preferences in Library. Booted to safe mode and restarted. Restarted the router. Renewed the DHCP lease. Everything. I'm at my wit's end. Help me out, please, someone. Anyone.
