It is just a single name. It's not the most popular person's name but it's mine and I want it for future use. This guy who uses it atm just posts crappy pictures, and gets about 2 likes per pic. The thing is, in his bio he wrote that he isn't selling his name and don't even ask him for it. Does anyone have any tips on how to get it?

Most likely won't get it if he's active. Most of these people get these short unique names and just keep it.
Basically like a domain, people bought for like $10/yr 10 years ago and sold for $100k+ in future.

I did have luck once, I messaged Instagram about a page who last posted like 150 weeks ago, and I actually got the account name but it's rare.
Most of these pages aren't inactive, they're not that dumb, all they need to do it keep it active and IG won't delete their account.

Yeah I've seen those types of accounts, but this guy is different. He posts boring stuff of his real life, plus the name isn't something popular like 'Dean', 'Patrick', etc. It's frustrating seeing it. Plus my full name is taken by some male model lol so I can't get that one
 
these are called OGs, I'm in a group who buy and sell OG usernames, these can go up to $25k for a single letter name.
Honestly there's not way to get it, unless you buy it form the current owner
 
You could get it by force but I wouldn't recommend that route.
 
I'm actually curious about this too. If the person with the name I wanted simply added a "_" to their name then would I be able to get the persons original name by switching it on my own profile? (ie. John is his ig name, he switches to John_, I then switch my name to John)

would that be how it works if someone did want to sell/give their name?
