I read about this guy who has been hiding free money around the San Francisco Bay area and then leaving clues on his Twitter for people to go and find it.

    What a nice bloke.

Any idea how much cash has been handed out so far ? Considering they have 250,000 legit followers and nationwide(now worldwide)media coverage it looks like a low cost Guerilla marketing idea.

What a great way to put a smile on people's faces, nice to see that the lucky winners are encouraged to give the money to a good cause or use it to bring happiness to others.

Also doubles up as a unique and creative publicity stunt that will likely benefit the individual behind it with plenty more than he/she gives away.

    Thanks for sharing this.

I read he has given away $5K so far. He started last Thursday and says he made a killing in the real estate market and wants to give back to the community.

Here's a link I just found with more of the story.

You could be right - it would be a great marketing trick too. I hope it's not though.

    Its promotional tweets like this

"Growing fast! HUGE giveaway coming when we reach 100K followers, so tweet about us and ask your friends to follow @HiddenCash"

That make me think its part of a social media/viral campaign but great return for 5K. "Google twitter hidden cash" and theres five pages of tier one media coverage.
