Err, I'v spent over $150 in the past few months buying these so called services that promise the earth but dont deliver.

Each one of these services (unnamed) promised this and that and the end result is no rise/change in serp positions for any of my sites/pages.

Only results im getting are from my own efforts. Starting to think its a total waste of money just like those WSO's. I'v yet to find a service that actually works and is worth the money im spending.

I've done my analysis and waited months to see results. Still waiting for something to happen.

It's not the services it's your SEO strategy.
No service can say what it will do unless they know the
    exact metrics of your site.

People should'nt promise as Google is so unpredictable as it changes daily. Most likely its your plan of action :)

You should be aware that in seo you can't promise anything , the only thing sellers can promise is the work they will do ,
it's your business to know if this work will work or not

It's very important to have a firm grasp of your competition level and SEO skills before buying a service. The best service in the world won't help you if you don't use it correctly. Buying a service is like buying any other automation tool--you buy it to simplify your life and keep yourself from having to do monotonous tasks. You should not be buying services if you don't understand the full consequences and benefits of each service.

If the services you have purchased are failing you, take a step back and ask yourself what part of your strategy failed. Why didn't it work, and what's the solution in future campaigns?

Do the SEO work yourself. You'll see better results then since you control everything on your websites and backlinking.

You guys have confirmed what the OP is saying "Why promise if you can't deliver"

If the SEO services promise something knowing there's a lot of factor deciding the outcome then you should not promise such. It's not the OP business to know if the service will work or not it's the service providers responsibility to know since he is the one who maid the claims.

I hope you guys businesses model isnt based on this type of thinking

well from personal experience same as you

some services work for a while then something changes and it doesn't work the same as it did before.

however I do think you need variety - so that is worth paying for - especially if they target sites that you have ignored.

this is really a game and one half of it is analysis - getting rid of deadwood.

I'd need a specific example of the services that OP is mentioning, but I'm sure that none of the BST services are that misleading. Each thread is hand approved by a moderator. In a place where we are all familiar with the joys of sales copy, I'm sure most BST owners have a reasonable expectation that people coming to their thread are also aware of such.

If a sales thread was truly misleading, it wouldn't have been approved. However, every thread in BST has some "sales copy" speak in it.

Just for a totally random example, if you read a title in the BST that said :

"Ultimate LinkWheel ++++ Triple Your Income Overnight!"

Do you honestly think that the seller is guaranteeing your income triples overnight?

You really need to ignore any promises of results. That is really something nobody can predict as each niche and site is different. You need to analyze your needs and then decide what is best for your particular situation. Then if you want to outsource you find someone that is providing a service that fits your goals. Now sometime I will try something out to see if it will work by getting somebody to do it first for me. If it is successful then I try and setup a system so that I do not have to outsource it. Sometimes though you can get a good service cheap enough it just does not pay to do it yourself.

Really though you need to decide what is best for your site. Outsourcing is fine but do it the right way. The only way you can really judge a service provider is did they do what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it.

If they did then they are good, maybe their service does not work in your situation and honestly maybe their service is just not effective at all. You need to use your own judgment on that going in, of course they think it is great or they would not be doing it.
