    So i NEVER use IE.

However I do run a few bots every now and then. When I've contacted the developers to inquire if the apps/bots somehow utilized IE they both said no.

I'm getting the sense that something malicious maybe going on. So of course I intend to do a clean install, still I feel like I need to figure out how to determine what app is accessing IE from my computer , so I don't repeat the same thing all over again after reinstalling apps .

Anyone know of an app or method to determine what exactly is running IE on my computer?

If you suspect you have something malicious going on first download and run a free copy of Malwarebyts. If it says it found some viruses it will tell you where the viruses are before cleaning them out. That doesn't mean however that the viruses it found are running IE though.

You say you NEVER use IE, do you nonetheless have it installed? It could be starting up when you turn on your comp ...

    Hey thanks for the response.

Yes, IE is installed. I hadn't considered that it may start when the computer is turned on. I'll download Malwarebyts and see what happens. If nothing else, i guess icould just uninstall IE

    Thanks again

I think sys internals will show running processes and who/what started them.

how do you know its running? If you are seeing it in the processes list of the task manager then "process explorer" might show you what started it.

also you can try this at the command prompt (needs admin privalages)
    netstat -a -b -f

will show you all open connections, they're destination and the process that owns them. Might help.
