Hey everyone,
So Friday night I managed to overwhelm myselves to the extreme. I often do this. Normally, I retire for the day, call up a friend or two and basically just forget about work altogether for the rest of the day.
Beyond this - I absolutely love unplanned solo trips.
Not for the lack of a social circle, mind you. I have a pretty huge circle with incredible friends.
However, unplanned solo trips are something else. The thrill of just skipping town, without knowing what or where your next meal will be, staying unknown to the kind of people you'd meet, the place you'll sleep, the experience that'll occur...
It's fantastic.
As I got in the car, my destination was a beach town about a 4 hour drive from my place. Nothing I had thought of before. It was one of those things that just occurred.
I stopped to grab a bite a little post midnight and began calling any homestays available for my stay.
I was having little luck as it's monsoon and a beach town isn't an ideal destination right now for many, so a lot of homestays shut shop for the season.
However the manager at the roadside restaurant I was eating overheard me and what do you know? He hails from this quaint little town and his elder brother ran a homestay just next to one of the little known, smaller beaches. He called his brother up right then and there and within the next few minutes, I had a simple, yet delightful little room waiting for me - a room with a verandah that opens straight onto the beach. If this ain't serendipity, I don't know what is.
My check-in time was 9 AM. I reached here at 4.00 (LOL)
I then proceeded to sit at the beach right by the property in complete nothingness, absolute darkness, just the twinkle of the stars and the serene humdrum of the waves to keep me company.
Made friends with stray pups who slept on the beach, the rains didn't disappoint either - every few minutes that I felt alone, the showers came by to let me know that I definitely wasn't. I was cold and wet, but a billion times more peaceful than before.
I sat there from about 4.30 till 7.00, as the creaks of dawn began surfacing amidst the layer of thick, dark and absolutely surreal clouds. This was when the owner had woken up, responded to my message and let me in.
I was then served a freshly home cooked, sumptuous, local breakfast along with piping hot delicious Indian tea.
As I sit here with a full belly and contented heart, I decided to share a little tid bit with you all, while I logged into check on the running logs of a few scripts.
I quickly signed up for a Twitter account and posted this - a peace of serenity I managed to record.
Twitter may have fucked up the resolution a bit. But just look at those clouds. (Do watch in full screen on mobile).
Get out there guys. Waiting for plans to finalize, getting a lot of people to agree, answering everyone's whims and fancies is cumbersome.
Go find your beach town, get on those mountains, head into that forest.
Get in your car, book that flight ticket and fuck right off.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone.
Serenity Now!
