So like the title says, I sold a local business a website and fb package today for $200. Not much but it's a great start considering that puts me a little closer to having rent money this month.

I want to thank this forum, Flizzow, and Oxonbeef for the idea's and inspiration. The reason for Flizzow would be the thread with the Activeden Facebook theme he posted here:

    Code:
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/templates-themes/278139-get-activeden-flash-facebook-fanpage.html
and for Oxonbeef for the idea of setting up the template's and promoting them to business. His post is was originally got he looking for the theme's.

My client already had a domain, but nothing on it. We had been talking about setting him up a web site, but he couldn't really afford to since he just opened his business (tattoo shop) and money keeps flowing out for fliers, shirts, and such.

So I downloaded the theme from the above thread, spent about 15 minutes personalizing it to his shop, and went and showed it to him. Told him the plus side of it is that it can double as a temporary site for the time being until he has the funds for me to do his full site. Think that's what truly sold him. Plus I gave him a year of free hosting. No biggie since I just put it on my hostable account which was only $.99 for 3 years.

I still have to finish it by adding his "about me" and more images to the gallery so about another hour of work and its complete. So I'm looking at about 1-1 1/2 hours of work for $200. I think I can do that all day long! :p

On a side note, I will not be doing any seo work for the site, but will submit him to google places. I may add a few backlinks if I get bored or something but that was not included in this deal. Once he has the cash for his real site, seo and backlinking will be started then, for an additional premium of course.

So lesson here is; read, implement, think on your own, and EARN!

Well done mate and thanks for the props. Now it's time to get some referrals from him.
I would bet he a list of suppliers and contacts that could do with your services.
You've made your first sale, the hard part is over but now the work begins.

He has already given me one referral. He is all about networking which should be a great bonus for referrals for me. I was actually set up with him by a referral of a referral. I am going to see him today and he told me to check out the business next door. They are new owners of an existing business and looking for advertisement. Fingers crossed. It would be amazing to get a sale 2 days in a row.

That's awesome! I was just getting started with my game plan for this method! I'm glad to see someone else trying it out and doing good with it!

I have talked to another company and they where kinda interested and asked for a card. I was like ummm...I don't have any. Great. So I just order 500 cards from vistaprint for $19 shipped. Will be here by April 11th.

Then I was thinking I really don't have an online presence for my own company that sells businesses online presences, so I put in a few hours of work on the company site. Now that the site is about done, I still need to figure out for sure the services I offer and get the rest listed, but I finally feel like my business is coming together and I can actually say that I am a business owner.

Now I just need to keep looking and talking to perspective clients, take it slow, do an honest and job, and watch the referral start to come in.

Sounds like you're hitting the jackpot. Referrals are great. I once had a guy I worked with for delivering facebook fans to his page. He was quite pleased with my service I guess he referred me to one of his friends. That friend turns out to be in the web development business and has been ordering from me for his clients on a regular basis since.

Make sure your company site looks good. The first impression is the last impression. Your site can say many things about your business.

    Congratulations and good luck!

goodjob man. now if you can scale up and hire a coder that knows more than you and can do more and quicker/more efficiently too. then you can just handle sales and make more $$ than before. then start offering SEO services and just be the middle man between MrE, Bass, etc on here and mark up their services some and make money upselling. next find a coder that knows jquery mobile and you can market simple informational mobile sites to businesses for a couple hundred that take but a few hrs for your coder at around 8-10 a hr to code and you've got even more money coming in. most of this stuff i've skipped over cause i'm about to start just doing sales for a friend of mine who specializes in GP ranking. if your interested in JVing you could make some nice $$ cause you already have your foot in the door with businesses in your town. hit me up if your interested and goodluck with your continued success

How'd you get the page set-up? And how'd you find the client?

The page is set up with a template from activeden that I downloaded from here.

The customer was through a referral of a previous customer. We had been talking about doing something for him, but he wasn't able to afford much. So I decided to throw something together for him to see something live. Talked it up and sold him on it that day.

A majority of my clients will be either through referrals or because my partner or I walked directly into the business and got them to order.
