Has anyone used facebook or twitter to increase the authority of their website?

We all know that Google has started integrating social signals to be able to determine the authority of a web page. I'm wondering, has anyone seen success using these social platforms?

I'm not asking whether you ranked for xyz keyword but whether or not it helped the overall authority of your website. If it helped your keyword rankings, even better... but I'm more interested in the authority factor because if it does work, it could possibly get your website indexed more frequently, give you higher PR or even help website rank more fluidly while avoiding the sandbox. ( I know this is wishful thinking, but hey it's possible ! )

I recently added a twitter bar on my website to show the latest tweets for my companies twitter page and I'm interested to see what type of effect it will have. I've been tweeting my url as well as my keywords and I have added my url to the profile page. My site is sandboxed and I'm trying to do everything I can on the side to get it out.
