Say i have a website called rectaldysfunction.com and it's full of super content thats really informative but no one in the world will tweet it or say they like the website in their facebook account. How in the hell am i gonna get ranked well in googles eyes if no one is "liking" me or social bookmarking my website?

I dont really class facebook likes or tweets as social bookmarking.

Social bookmarking in my eyes is submitting your websites to digg , delicious etc.

Try and do article marketing also.

What i meant was, if you have the type of website that no one will ever admit to "liking" for whatever reason (in this case an embarrasing medical condition) how is it ever going to be considered popular content down the line in googles eyes as they are rapidly moving away from article marketing and onto social media marketing.

    Hey ,

It may be embarressing to some people as its a private thing. But there are many people who search for this so you shouldnt worry about that. Just do this and you will be fine:

Article submissions about Rectal disfunction (Ezine accept medical conditions)
    Social bookmarking
    Profile links (High PR)
    Blog comments
    Squidoo lens creation
    RSS Submissions

If you do that you should be fine

I guess if you have a website in a niche that no one wants to admit to "liking" then social media marketing doesn't apply and google fall back on the process of counting backlinks from traditional sources.

I use social bookmarking to get the site and backlinks indexed quicker.

If you want social marketing from facebook then just buy some likes.

You could also consider buying some Twitter accounts to get the conversation started - when others see that their is a discussion on the topic, you might be surprised to see how many people join the conversation.
