Ok so i just finally finished my website and im ready to learn the basics of seo (i super newb) anyway im learning about title tags and i just had a small question on the very tip top of my site it says welcome to goodbyepanics.com, now is that like my main title tag? and if so i should probably have something like "permanent anxiety cure" there right? since im promoting an anxiety cure site.

o and if any of you guys are not too busy right now could you maybe pop in on my site and tell me what you think? thanks so much if you do my msn messenger is tomwd@live.com just in case :)

OK, I just told someone else basically the same thing as I'm going to tell you.

I don't mean this to be rude, but I think you need to do some searching on g00gle for this. If your understanding of html is that remedial, you need to find a basic html tutorial somewhere else. Just do a search for "title tags" and you'll find some info.

A lot of the methods on here don't requre you to know any coding or html at all, but it is very helpful if you want to go very far, so be sure to look for a basic html tutorial site somewhere.

Don't get me wrong, keep reading the threads on BHW to learn about marketing, and there are a lot of html questions that would be worth asking here, but this isn't an html tutorial forum.

Having said that, do some searches on g00gle for "title tag", and for "meta name tags" Those are very important for basic seo and include the keywords and description for your site too.

edit- and yes you would probably be better off with something like "permanent anxiety cure", but since whatever is in the title tag will also shows up in the browser title bar, sometimes you might still want your domain name there to help with branding. Just depends on what you are doing with the site.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking then. The title tag will be whatever you put in the title tag. If you are asking if the phrase you see at the top of your page is the title tag then no it's not. Unless you are talking about the top bar in your browser. If you can see it on the webpage, then it might be the title of your page, but it is not the title tag. If your asking if "permanent anxiety cure" is better than "welcome to goodbyepanics.com" then yes for seo purpose using your keywords would be better.

No I'm not a moderator, and I'm not even trying to be. Telling you to search on g00gle was intended as some helpful advice. I didn't just say go search g00gle, I told you a couple things to look for that can really help you out. And I even added an edit that was a possible answer to your question.

One other thing, if you're working with something like wordpress, then you have to look for where to set the title tag.
In your general settings will be where your blog title is. Thats what people will see on your page. But the title tag is usually set by your theme, if you go to the appearance tab and look in the theme options there will usually be a place to configure seo. It is kind of theme specific, but you should be able to find a place to set up all your meta tags.

But seriously, you can get better answers to this question and in less time with just a couple of searches on g00gle.

Amen to all of what Greywolf said. Also, if you are using wordpress, search for the title tag plug-in(free). You can optimize the title tag for every page, post, tag, category, anything you name it.
