And inbetween those you have some solid PR4 and PR5 original content backlinks
Would the thousands of PR0 blog comments penalize you, or would they simply not count?

For example, take software like No Hands SEO (which is great IMO).
It creates thousands of posts for you (that can be pretty unique if properly spinned) to various blogs and platforms, and most of those are PR0.
Every once in a while it'll give you a PR3 backlink.

Many users of NHSEO and similar software still succeed greatly in the lower competition (1000 EM range) keywords fairly quickly
So is the PR0 "link spam" penalty just a myth?

I'm not suggesting that it's a new method, or that it would rank you.
I'm simply asking whether it would derank you or have negative consequences - because a lot of people on BHW advise against it

So it still has benefits even when you spam PR0 blogs? Then why not spam higher PR blogs instead so that one could have more benefits. But I guess that would lead to being penalized.

if you comment spam link even though you have good links you'll still get a penalty and your site or a portion of your site will get deindexed. chances of removing mass comment spam links are slim to none at best. imho.

It's not the fact that it's a PR NA or 0 that's going to land you in hot water. It's the fact if it's auto approve moderation anf has 1000's of OBL with "Viagra" "Make Money Online" "Trade Forex" "Free Porn" splattered all over the page that's going to mess up your site, and no, having a few high PR links does not counter that fact.

That's exactly why now with Penguin Negative SEO is a reality. You can blast AA links with Spam keywords and de-rank competitors (please don't do this). But you're talking about purposefully going and applying this to your property. No Hands SEO is a great tool. You have to set it up properly.

I would worry more about the OBL than the PR. The last thing you want is a link from a page that's been spammed out to death with shitty links to shitty spammy sites. They might be looking for a quick boost on a turn and burn, but I'm guessing you actually want to keep your property around for a while?
