Well recently all of these music, torrent, and counterfeit sites have been taken down by ICE. I'm just wondering what exactly happens from there if your site is seized?

Probably a lawsuit, I deal with one of the owners of sites that where seized so we will soon find out.

most the sites that where seized is only the domain and change the DNS to ICE, you can browse the site via the IP, if the site using dedicated IP

I read on a site they had orders to seize the servers but I guess you are right it was only the domain name.

GUANTANAMO 4 j00!. Selling handbags is terrorism. MP3s are a crime against humanity.

Now to be serious, hopefully the confiscation is it. They hold it in perpetuity (sans any ICANN fees as their, there bitch) and you go register a .info or something else they can't get their dirty paws on.

Of course if you used any real information for the .com they now have it. The proxy stuff is unmasked.

1- What happens to those who had their real information on the domains?
2- Are they only seizing domain names and changing DNS?

This is going to cause all of use who share bits to get targeted aswell. It wonted be long before the .info gets sized aswell.

Now I see alot more invite only sites popping up in the near future. A new niche was created. So does this mean its going to be harder to share files, yeah right..

they were using piwik the other day when it first happened. I guess they decided to go with google so the info isnt on 'their' servers. Or is it "our" servers since we are the taxpayers?

Alright so if they seize your site, it's not like they are going to take you to court and send you to jail are they? I'm just wondering because I have a site that is in a category of some of these big sites that have been taken down. Hosting is offshore and the domain was registered through the hosting service. But it's all with my real info, so should I change the info or just completely register a new domain and hosting with fake info?

I would prefer to not be fined or go to jail in the future lol.

Even if it's 'registered' in the UK or elsewhere, if the domain provider is US based (Godaddy..et al) they would (I think) be able to seize the domain thru a US court.

You'll go to court, its like the police taking your drugs you will be charged also.

As for your site if you stay below the radar you should be fine when you get up there doing huge amounts of traffic they'll start to notice you

Alright so all of the counterfeit sites and sharing sites that got taken down recently, all of those owners have to go to court? And possibly jail?

What about if I just use fake info to register the domain and hosting though? And host it offshore.

Not too sure... but don't think it would really matter what you do. They would be able to track you down if they really wanted to find you. Server logs, proxy logs and what not. There is always a paper trail, footprint left some where.

Whatthe? Is right they are going to find you/trace you no matter what. I guarantee out of those 77 sites some where offshore but still where seized because the owner lived in the US. If the government is after you.. Good luck

They gotta move all the seized goods in the govWarehouses... now with these websites in hand shouldn't be too hard... finally, a way out of the debt cycle!

What about those who live outside US?
What happens if their domains got seized?
A lot of sites are re-opening with different domain extension, Don't they care ?
