So I'm working with a startup company. Its like Uber for its not so big right now. They are saying we need
more traffic but we all know getting more traffic isn't the key, its getting targeted traffic.

What they are doing right now is semi-frequently posting on Facebook and reaching around 1500 people but
they only get 20 likes back. They said they tried with Facebook ads and its was expensive as hell. The
backlinking which they are doing right now is only from high profile local techblogs, nothing like Techcrunch.
They are doing moderate local marketing but I guess they aren't doing it much hard core right now. Mostly
    marketing within the universities.

There DA from old site by getting backlinks from 80 DA website is currently around 30. Now they made a
new website and made the old domain redirect to it. It's DA is like 1.

What can I do to create more authority of the domain and rank for multiple cities? Like lets say Uber started
in Nyc or "uber in nyc" they would rank #1, if I wanted to rank #1 on "uber service in LA" or "dirt cheap
taxi service in LA" should I build unique content and do the standard backlinking strategy? Or will just listing
all the cities on their homepage do the trick?

Another thing I'm going to look into is reducing the cost of Facebook ads. I've read people doing some sort of
targeting which brings down Facebook ad cost.

When you say 'it's like Uber', is it a taxi app?

If so, that's a really tough market to enter right now - even some of the bigger players are being pushed out because they can't get enough traction to compete properly.

Yea but that is the case in the developed economy, not in the developing economy. Service like these don't exist.

Like say you wanted to start Uber like service in Zimbabwe. How would you rank in very broad group of keywords? Unique article on each keyword or what?

    All for local traffic .

It was just an example. The country where my client is, there is potential and people are aware of such services. But as of right now, there isn't any major player.

I want to get this site to become an authority in the field.

On the other note, we got our joining date the same. Kewl.

It can't just be done with SEO only to be frank.

Introducing something that does not exist on that local area you need to spend bucks on.

    Social media ads
    Fan page promotions
    adwords promotion
Also do Blog posting relevant to that niches as much close and market those blog posts Via SEO specially and on social media.
Make competitions for rewards so more and more peoples get engaged with less efforts.
    Mobile app ads also.
    etc

Endless possibilities basically you are going to aware about your brand niche that does not exist on that market so you need to engage as much possible peoples.

it's just my little knowledge that i can tell

Yea they have have been the first three you have mentioned. They played around with Facebook ads and are doing a little bit of local marketing physically.

They don't have a blog page on the website to post latest news, that is something which they can work on. But I'm curious how to rank for remote regions. For example how do you rank for places near New York CIty like counties but not actually ranking for [keyword]+New York City.

Is it done by creating unique content for each county or does Google know about counties and rank you for all of them if you manage to rank for the main city?

    okay got it

yes blog is one of the key factor for any business to get a lot of organic relevant traffic that you can convert by offering incentives,Newsletters type of stuff and a lot more.

Ranking for a specific location like you given example of NY.

It depends on your on site blog and it's post optimization at starting.

Then you need to make relvant links and social media also promotion to that blog or post to get targgeted traffic also try to steal some competitors efforts by seraching them on same keywords and dig their stratgies using varies tools available out there.

Even you can do more by making some counter post and headline of the post is always the key for CTR increase on organic traffic
