A lot of unfortunate stories here... i know there are legit reasons people are getting banned for. Yet, it seems like a lot of people who seem to abide by adsense TOS still get the ban hammer.

I'm a newb building few sites for adsense at the moment. I'm making sure everything is up to the standard of google and abide to the adsense TOS.

However, it is rather scary to know that all this hard work will vanish by adsense team's decision.

So, what's the deal with adsense? Is it still "safe" to pursue it as long as you're playing safe with their TOS? or is it unreliable even if you're being careful?

I have my adsense acct for 3 years now and make a decent income primarily with Mirco Niche Sites.
Never had any problems with my acct but I'm very aware that the knock out can come overnight.

It is really an adventure (and thats why I like it), you must have the balls to play that game. ;)

And yeah, never put all eggs in one basket ...

I have been with adsense over 2 years and made over 40k. But i am totally trying to be 100% legit and follow TOS. Even though all of my effort i may get banned without any reason. Anybody can get banned without any reason.

So you can never depend on adsense income. I even saw monthly making over 50k publishers get banned and get 0 support.

I love adsense, nothing to sell, no orders to fill or people to deal with. I say pick a semi-broad niche that you are INTERESTED in, and create several sites that fit in that broader niche cause you'll be creating content on that topic for a LONG time whether on your money sites or for your backlinks.

Realize that some niches just don't pay well in adsense like the gaming niche. Think outside the box a little and write the best content you can for your money sites possible. Adsense is long term game to do well in unlike affiliate marketing where you may slam a site to the top for some quick cash.

Adsense is risky for a few reasons but click bombing is a big issue for me so I did not invest time in Adsense so far. Maybe I will but only after I am fed up with affiliate stuff one day :)

Just make sure you don't build sites that can only rely on adsense.

As the Midiman and others have pointed out, make sure you diversify...

The real horror stories you hear about every day are those people that
simply rely on Adsense as their only form of income, and one day
Google bans either their Adsense accounts, deindexes their sites, or
    worse both.

The key is to try and stay within the guidelines, diversify your income.
My recommendation is to not ONLY try out Adsense when setting up
your Micro Niche sites. Test out affiliate programs and other sources
of income at the same time. You'd be surprised that some sites will convert
better and bring in better income than Adsense will.

Many try to screw them, so it's understandable that they have a strict policy, but with the rudeness that they show and the ever lowering cut that they are paying out, I'm surprised that they still dominate their industry.

I think adsense should not only be one of the streams ofincome, but never the most important one either. Just a supplemental way of generating income, or you might have to learn that the hard way!

Don't even think of sheating them, they may find out!

I make money with Adsense every month for the past several years. Its on a website that has unique content. As you must have heard this hundreds of times ...content is king..and google loves fresh content! Write content or outsource it, well worth it IMO.

And yes, diversify.. Adsense only brings a part of my income. I am a PPC highballer.

I believe less is more with Adsense. Too many Adsense Ads and it makes the site look Trashy and unprofessional.

I include adsense but in small portions and blend in with articles.

And as the others said ensure you use multiple streams - CPA, Affiliate, Banner Ads, Textual Link Ad plugins etc.

A lot of people who get banned don't actually know they are in fact in violation of TOS.

That being said you always need to diversify in any business.

I learnt the hard way, £2,500 in my account... BAN HAMMERED. I was truly being blackhat, and that was WELL before I even knew what BH meant! :)

Now, I make a modest earning on adsense, enough to cover all my internet costs (domains, hosting, services what ever). I am then able to make a killing on other things, mostly offline :)
