Yesterday all my sites got demoted about 60 places in google for "thin content", I just received the dreaded message in GWT.

Now what? this is my first manual penalty ever, what are the chances of recovering from a manual penalty after receiving the message? are the chances slim or high? any point even attempting to recover from it? has anyone any experience with this before? Is there a good chance I can recover if I address the problem correctly? The message is below. thanks all in advance.

P.S. Was I manually reviewed because I chose to use GWT? meaning had I not used GWT, would I have been safe from a manual review? can anyone verify this? thanks again.

Reasons why your site might have been penalized for thin content:

    1) duplicated content
    2) low quality content ( wallpapers site and affiliated sites fall in this category )
    3) using spinned articles
    4) accepting low quality guest posts
    5) auto generated content

based on the severity the manual action will be listed under site-wide matches and partial matches

after you have made the respective changes send a reconsidering request explaining your situation and they revert in like 2-3 weeks sometimes with an extra note by the reviewer which you can keep in mind and make the exact changes.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

I figured out it is "site wide matches" with the following text.

Thin content with little or no added value

This site appears to contain a significant percentage of low-quality or shallow pages which do not provide users with much added value (such as thin affiliate pages, cookie-cutter sites, doorway pages, automatically generated content, or copied content)

My articles are written new and manually 100%, it could be thought as low quality with shallow pages maybe?

yes and google webmasters tools has nothing to do with the penalty .

P.S - Actions listed under site wide matches are harder to recover from.

Ok that part is my fault, I typed it all quickly. Now that you saw it, care to share why you think it was penalized?

Thin content warnings usually mean that your content isn't up to par with Google's standards.

Did you write it all yourself? Maybe you used a cheaper service than the others provided on BHW?

I just used the Natasha Nixon article writing service on here, they manually write articles for SEO purposes, it's all unique content.

Your site got hit because of PBN links OP. The thin content is what they are giving people that have pbn links and get caught now. It usually has nothing to do with thin content at all as sites with hundreds of articles that have thousands of words of unique high quality content get hit by it.

Your chance of recovering is basically 1%

There's no point in rewriting the articles if you have PublicBN links and G found about it.

Yeah, many people talked about this b4, PBN got hit, your site doomed, and will receive thin content penalty, this is 100% ture.

You can try to send re-consideration, but its just hard to recovery.

Start over the site again with new domain, content etc. OP. Such penalties are very rare to cross through.
