So, I've been on BHW for coming up on two years now, and am still not financially stable. Not for any lack of comprehension, although it did take me awhile to accept the fact that SEO is as easy as it is, and doesn't have some huge secret.

Now, you can see how this is quite starkly juxtaposed with the fact that I'm about to turn 21, and have been living back at my dad's house for the past 3 months. It started out with bad decisions with my money, as I earned about 20k last year from email submits on Facebook - and squandered every last bit of it, even though I knew how to do SEO fairly well and nigh exactly how I should've invested it.

When I came back to my dad's house, I planned on leaving within the month, doing offline stuff and creating authority sites for a couple niches. Now, after 3 months, and lots of regrettable apathy/laziness, I'm getting the fuck out of here.

I have 3 niche sites set up, with really good SEO, days worth of keyword research for subniches in each one, very extensive/powerful backlink structures, ETC. But I will need to wait atleast a month to rake any profit from these sites.

So, enter offline marketing. I would consider myself far overeducated in SEO, especially for little local stuff. So, my goal is 4000$ by September. That's about how much I would need to comfortable and move out of here stably.

So what will I be doing? Cold calling MINIMUM 50 businesses a day based on a certain criteria that makes the leads a bit more warm. I'll be offering Google Places/website creation and mobile marketing for restaurants initially, and upselling on a whole bunch of things later. When cold calling I will only be asking for a meeting, not a check. Then at the meeting I will show up with flashy slideshows/information about the web, show them how much clientele they could be achieving, ETC.

I'll be updating this thread every damn day, with information on leads, tips I might find out, what happens, etc.

So for Sunday, I will be brushing up as much as I can on cold calling advice/brainwashing myself with inspirational shit. Tomorrow I'll begin the full scale calling.

If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them. Wish me luck!

Good luck man. By the post, I'd say you will be making well over $8k.

The laziness thing though...get the hell out of your dad's house. Rent an office, and only come back to sleep. It happened to me and changed my life.

Good luck with your business, it is easy to be complacent with what you have, a roof over your head, and always thinking - "tomorrow I will make a start on it".... been there done that.

My only advice, particularly when selling yourself and your services to clients is not to use SEO terms or talk about how the latest google algorithm works - all it does is mind boggle people, and it is easy to forget when discussing with people that they don't know what you do, none of my friends really understand what I do and i've explained it to them a dozen times!

Sell the benefit of what you can offer, whether it be fantastic website designs guaranteed to increase customer conversions, or online marketing services which will provide more customers, more sales, more revenue for the clients etc. I wouldn't go with the "I will rank your website higher by using white hate google methods" etc etc.

Keep us updated with your progress.

I had an office in San Diego and in the same building they had a company doing this. They asked for the sale on the call. They used a auto dialer that was loaded with the Yellowpages businesses.

They charged a $199 set up (which they waived to get the sale) and $199 per month. They guaranteed 1st position on atleast one keyword. Although they didn't tell the customer, the keyword was their business name. They also set up a Google Places for them as well.

They churned and burned hundreds of calls a day. They had something like 50 people making calls and 10 more people that were closers. It was a great business model.

I've done some cold calling for the google places and would recommend trowing that "get it done today" script as far as you can it been all over fiverr and now when calling people they get pissed when they hear that script, Instead be creative call ahead and ask the gate keeper to give you an email or fax number and the name of the person that makes those types of decisions send them the information and tell them you will be calling in a day or so, now when you call 95% of the people will not read the information that you sent "but will feel guilty" and will take you call this way they are a bit more receptive to your offer and give you a better closing ratio.
    Regards

Cold calling is tough, especially if you have never tried it. Before doing it, having a business model, everyone is enthusiastic... But then after day or two, enthusiasm might be easily gone. Especially, if you understand all the "other things" you have to do beside the calling.

Anyway, 50 a day is a good plan. If you are good on the phone, and picky in your selection, you can make 3 deals daily out of it.

Just do not forget to review your day always at the end of it. Try to improve your calling technique, your working effectiveness, everything.

If you will be still posting in this thread after a week, I will say you make a great success in cold calling.

    Good luck!

Subscribed! I used to work in an office where I had to cold call (and warm call) people, though I hated every minute of it because I didn't like the product... but I was damn good. I can only imagine that if you like what you're selling -- you better, or why would you be doing this? -- it would seem that you'll surely succeed. Best of luck, and hopefully this inspires me to get off my butt and on the phone.

Doing cold calling or door-to-door sales is very effective to train yourself for sales. It's the hardest of any type, so if you can master this, you'll be able to do anything. Good luck.
