    Just so we're clear:

Adwords tool says there are approximately 14,000 global and 6,000 local searches for a specific keyword.

That keyword in Google has over 100,000,000 results.

My site is in the #2 position, and has been for the last 4 months.

    Fantastic, right?

I get an average of 4 visitors per day.

Why doesn't that make any sense to me?

Even if you take the 6,000 local, that's still 200 per day. I get 4 of those? In position #2?

I have other sites that are on page 2 with fewer monthly searches and I get a lot more than 4 visitors per day.

Yeah, make sure the # searches is "exact" - use the local number and you may have a realistic idea. G's ky tool is terrible!

this might silly but a lot of newbies sign into gmail and then check their ranking - in which case it will be really high. Just make sure you are not doing that. Check you rank with Market Samurai or some other rank checking tool.

Maybe you have Googles custom search or whatever they call it on.. It puts the sites you visited above the other sites. It happen to me one time, I was excited and thought I was becoming a millionaire.. check, it should be top left of search results.

I did that once on accident. I am definitely #2. Checked in 2 different browsers AND on my mobile phone browser, while not signed into Google.

I do not see an option to specify "exact" in the Google Adwords Tool.

I must be missing it. Where is it?

Also check how many pages are indexed.
And test another script to double check stats...

    But this is weird.

The exact option is down on the left hand side of the page. you have to click it and unclick broad, then in the advaned options you should choose only keyword ideas with your keywords in it. Search again and find out what you come up with.

If you're asking this, then the 14,000 monthly searches is most likely for broad searches.

Look at the left sidebar, scroll down to where it says "match types". Uncheck broad, and check [Exact].

    What's the # now?

    OHHHHHHHH.

    Duh.

    *embarrassed*

Yeah those numbers make more sense.

Can I be a noob and ask what's the difference between "broad" and "[exact]"?

Say your keywords are car parts

Broad search: Which parts can fit my car

    [Exact] search: Car parts

    simple ain´t it?

But even so, g adwords tool can mislead. Get market samurai for $0 in here to have more accurate data on how much visitors you can get daily.

Yeah it's okay :) Been there done that.

I once registered a 3 word domain with 156,000 monthly searches. I told 3 friends I was gonna bank real hard with all those searches and fly us all to Milan for lunch with the money.

LATER I learned the difference between broad & exact matches, ran my keyword in g's tool again.

30 exact searches a month.

    Don't feel bad.

I did the same thing one time. I spent a bunch of money on articles, linkwheels, etc. for a search term that got 22,200 monthly searches according to GA Keyword Tool. I got my site ranked #1 for that term. Then, maybe 15 to 20 visitors a day...That's when I realized that for exact matches, the term only got 390 searches a month.
    Just another learning experience!

Even though I dont think you are serious, please also keep in the Google Results is nothing to be basing your keyword off of. Search this phrase "sex in the sex in the sex in the sex" without the "". About 1,040,000,000 results (0.19 seconds). But nobody is searching for that, they are searching for Sex in the City and other terms. Number of search results means NOTHING for being "good" at seo.
