So if I buy a domain at auction with PR4 does it keep its PR4 once I get it?

Assuming the PR is legit, as confirmed by a PR checking tool and making sure an info: search returns that same domain.

Are you guaranteed that site's PR until at least the next PR update?

It usually stays, I would purchase whois guard. I've bought several at godaddy auctions and they keep the PR. But I'd see how many backlinks it has to see if you need to do some building in order to keep it past the next PR update.

See if you can find the old content in the Google cache - you will definitely keep the PR if you can find the old content!

You'll probably be good unitl the next PR update. At which that time, Google might lower it if it changed hands and loss quality. I'm high bid on a PR9 right now. I hope it doesn't lower.

Best of luck on that mac

@OP, generally i've found you are good for the first update after it changes hands, its the 2nd one that has gotten me in the past if you don't build it out well and keep up the backlinks to it.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I was taught to believe that one of the factors that help determine the current page rank is the page rank of other pages linking back to it.

What I would do is run the domain through majestic, aherfs, and opensiteexplorer. Then analysis the backlinks.
What is the quality of the backlinks? PageRank? as well as Authority and Trust factors.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "dropped"? I'm looking at the whois.domaintools.com info for this domain right now. What should I look for to see if it has been dropped?

The answer to your first question: not necessarily (or even likely)
The answer to your second question: no

By dropped he meant that the domain is expired or terminated. If the domain is dropped and bought, G 'll reset the Pagerank and you need to rank it from the scratch.

most of the time it stays. You might check to make sure that it has a true pr rank right now and just not faked.

Once you get the site you could look at the wayback deal and see what the site looked like before and what all it had on it to see why google gave it a pr4 and then you could do something like that and you might just keep the pr4 when the update roles around.

Please describe a scenario in which PR changes before the next global PR update.

As stated in the first post, assume for the sake of discussion that it's legit PR and not fake PR and has been verified with an info: search.

You can check the wayback machine before you get the site :)

What's odd is a lot of the domains I see for sale with PR have no backlinks showing up in Open Site Explorer, backlinkwatch, or linkdiagnosis. Do you think they told everyone who links to them to remove the links? Seems like a lot of work.

    1. Check the existing incoming links for PR, make sure it is to the homepage and not an innerpage.
    2. Make sure there isn't a 301
    3. Make sure the link will stick

Does anyone know of an accurate guide on the best way to buy domains cheaply with PR that sticks? Apparently buying expiring domains will reset the PR?

I found this domain PR5 and when I looked into whois.domaintools.com, it stats this:

    3 registrars; 1 drop.

So... what does that mean? Should I still bid?

As long as they aren't dropped and have some good amount of backlinks then they will be good.
