And as we were talking he said a couple of things that I thought would benefit the community as to a thought process in the internet marketing industry.

He mentioned that many people do not treat their IM activity as a business. That is a huge waste of a person's mindset as if you are going to be making a living from the internet you need to address that thought and clean it up. As an internet marketer one needs to consider that the efforts he or she is putting ought to be consistent with that of any other business person... one that has a brick and mortar business with an open and close sign on the door and posted hours.

The person that gets up when they feel like it, casually strolls into the living room and pops on the TV, kicks back and says, "I'll get to things in a little while" is usually not the successful one whether he is in the IM industry, Insurance Industry or the Dog Walking Industry. A structured time frame is best for any business and one should set it and adhere to it must as one wold for any business.

Do not work some of the day and then say, "I think I'll watch a couple of Netflix movies" and blow the rest of your work day off... that is just plain lazy and will not get you anywhere positive.

Be committed to your work day.

Another thing that struck me was the time commitment that he thought was acceptable and the time commitment he thought was over the top. His thinking was that my time spent working my businesses was a bit over the top and he said that many "older guys" work those kinds of hours.

I think it is actually "successful guys" that work those kinds of hours.

My work day is usually up at 5 AM, check emails and respond starting at about 5:10 AM.... set up a few processes that run automated, check traffic, rankings and revenue and plan my work for the day based on a list I generated the day before.

I'll grab a cup of coffee, let the dogs out back and talk with my wife and then get ready to go to work.

Out the door, in a car and onto the office.

In the car I handle some phone calls and emails... I do not drive as I am not much of a fan of driving so I have the benefit of a driver and that saves me some time.

At work it is plow away at my list, communicate with my business partners and outsourcers, and just generally stay at my desk.

I pack a lunch so I do not have to leave if I am busy and that saves me some time as well as allows me to keep a momentum and focus on the tasks at hand.

At 5 my driver shows to take me home and I'll generally do a little work in the car on the way back as well as I would consider it a waste of daylight to do otherwise.

Dinner at home, an a little work in my office at the house afterwards usually but not that much as I have cut down on my working hours the past year or so.

    I don't stop to play PS4.
I don't stop to watch Netflix movies.
I don't stop to smell the Roses.

I get up and go to work and when I get to work I work.

If you want to be successful as an internet marketer you need to work as well and you need to treat this opportunity as a business venture which means you have to set up a schedule and develop the proper discipline to adhere to it.

Those of you that are slacking, Man Up and hop on the success train by working a schedule and exhibiting a commitment to your business and I guarantee that you'll end up making more money.

I was thinking about this the other day..i dont really live from IM and i have a moderate success with IM but my toughts where if i can make this much money with a little effort i can imagine what i could do if i devote 8 hours a day in this business..And my plan is to start doing these things much differently and treat this as a regular work..problem is i never really had 9-5 job in my life so thats something i have to get used to..

one thing i dont really like in your day is that you dont have a time to have fun and thats really important in life...one day you will be 80 and when you look back on your life you dont want your only memory to be your office..for me whole point of being in IM is to be indipendent and not to work regular work hours so if that sometimes include nerflix and psx than fuck it let it be :)

Tell that to my country club when they see me on Saturdays and Sundays.

I just shared my work day... not my days off.

Good Solid Point though... life is not all about working.

I agree with you 100%. Many people get into IM in order to get away from the stress and
make it easy on themselves. Wrong mindset to have because when you are starting a business you have
to baby it until it can baby you.

    Self discipline
    Self Accountability
    Failure until success

All hard traits to growing a business and sticking to the line.

Well then, I officially want to be BTB when I grow up.

    Seriously.

I like to think I have a pretty vigorous work schedule for a 19-year old, I haven't touched a drop of liquor in about 2 years (for specific reasons I won't get into) so I don't go out to the bars/clubs that often. On weekends I'm on my computer working, even when I don't have anything to write I'm still on the computer looking for clients/different ways of creating revenue.

I haven't gotten into any niche sites and ranking pages (or even affiliate marketing or anything like that), but I'm sure I will eventually.

I suppose I have the benefit of youth on my side, but that's about it...

Any business you own you have to devote more time then a 9-5 its just the way it is, those who don't understand this will never succeed.

This can be applied to any activity and not just to IM. End of the day, it is up to us as individuals to realize and fight for our goals.

To me it is very simple, whenever you want your goals as bad as you want to breathe, you will reach them, and that's for sure. I believe something more important than setting tasks and routines is to find a source of motivation, normally a goal.

But also, same as in sports, rest is part of training. Not talking about laying down while you are working, simply dedicating some hours of the week to your soul and body, I believe without it you won't get anywhere.

As the latin proverb says "mens sana in corpore sano"; so treat your body with respect if you truly want to get far in life. Respect eating times and construct a positive diet that brings you the much needed energy to sustain your work. It is easy to slack off on those things and to excuse yourself saying things like "I have to work 24/7, no time for that stupid shit", but in reality, you will be damaging your work a lot more if you don't respect your body than if you do.

All in all, great read, but again, respecting your body should be part of your work.

Some people just thrive on challenge, can't tell them otherwise. Me? I plan to spend the rest of my young life in the shade kicking back. I see what too much work does to people, makes them disillusioned almost like ants in a farm.

Life is about balancing your personal, private and professional aspects. Obviously not in perfect harmony however, I find that when I try and spend the whole day working the quality of what I produce is terrible. Unless I take a Ritalin or something.

If I wake up and have a good meal. Watch the morning local news, work out and meditate. Take an ice cold shower and then spend a few hours studying, then my ideas flow so much more smoothly.

If I start my morning off with some tail then it's even better.

Humans are not robots but thriving souls being conditioned to be so.

I think a structured day can go a long way, not just in your own production, but in the way other people look at you as well. One of the most important qualities I've found is stability, one day same as the next. When you show up online, or make yourself available at the same time everyday, and don't disappear for hours at a time during the day, it shows a dedication to what you're doing. People know they can count on you to be there doing your part if you're partnered up or something. Even if you work solo, you can still build a reputation as a hard worker, people can see that kind of stuff usually. You can build credibility and start to network with different people when they take you serious and see that you're not just in it for a fast buck. It can open a lot of doors, or just flat out increase your own productivity and revenue. Good thread bud!

Totally agreed op, but schedule is not the only thing to success. You need A LOT more than just a schedule, like a budget for example.

Personally, I got into IM to avoid that kind of work schedule. Sure, I could make more money, but I view money as merely a means to facilitate the kind of lifestyle that's meaningful to me.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

There isnt one way to do. Ive spent the last 20 months traveling asia and pulling in 8-12k a month doing nothing cause the system is perfected and automated. Had loads of free time and really lived life. I couldnt imagine spending the last 20 months slaving 5 days a week to enjoy 2. Im more about slaving 2 to enjoy 5.

Im always trying to take myself out the equation in every venture I start. Always outsource the bitchwork. You should be focused on 20% of the the work and the 20 percent of that 20 percent. For me hard work was at the begining. Spending 14 hours a day learning testing and learning. I dont care how much money you got. If you working 18 hours a day to make that much money then your a failure in my eyes nd havent learned much about life unless its something you absolutely love doing.

If all I was making was an average of 10K a month you would have a valid point + I have a handful of different online operations going on... I could relinquish some of the responsibility of those entities to others and will in a year or two when it is time to retire.

I am going to respectfully disagree. I got into IM for the freedom of working whenever I want and on what projects I pick. I outsource what I do not want, or cannot do myself. If that means that I miss out on a few hundred grand to actually enjoy my life and experience the world around me, then so be it.

I bet for those 14 hour days at the beginning of your career had some kind of structure as BTB is suggesting.
Sounds like you have got an income and lifestyle you are happy with and I congratulate you but remember the majority of people on this forum are just playing at IM and do not take it seriously.
BTB is suggesting putting in the effort and maybe more people will have success and enjoy a lifestyle like yours.

Going to have to respectively disagree on this one too BTB, I know a lot of people here including yourself work under this regime work hard and smart, if its working for ya more power to ya man, but like others have said here I got into this industry to make shit tons of money as efficiently as possible, I got into this industry for freedom not to be cooped up behind a desk all the time like a 9-5 slave to the rat race...

At the beginning when you first get into the game work hard (try to work smart too, easily said than done at this stage) for sure, work your damn ass off.. But there comes a point as you lets say "evolve" and learn your trade that you should be working "very smart" not hard, streamlining and outsourcing as much as possible. I still work my ass off don't get me wrong I take this industry/my work very seriously and run some big projects which I love doing, but I do it a lot smarter than I did 3 years ago, so I can stop now to smell the roses, enjoy life, travel, spend time with family and enjoy the fruits of my labor, isn't that what it's all about :)
