I am trying to wrap my head around something. I have some content on my site that I show in only particular moments (randomized) and a cookie is set so when it is shown...it doesn't get shown again.

I run a php mysql insert at the same time to track how often this randomized code is loaded.

I have noticed an IP of 66.249.68.103 has hit this randomized code 4 times in a matter of 13 seconds...with 2 times being on the exact same timestamp and the other 2 times only 1 second apart.

    It's the google bot http://whois.domaintools.com/66.249.68.103

I realize google bot can probably get around not having cookies...but to hit this random code which literally goes through a php random function 4 times in 13 seconds...well I don't understand it.

Think anyone can make sense of this?

Well I can only tell you from past experience on what I have done. I used to have some php scripts setup that did a random chunk of text and also did ip tracking and all that shit.. bottom line was G did not like it. They were able to detect what I was doing so I trashed the ideas. From what I'm thinking is G knows what you are doing.

Ok, did some investigating...turns out Google Bot is crawling my site alot just indexing...and it visits so much I believe it was simply getting the correct random code.

what I am going to do is check against the user agent and if it contains "googlebot" don't show that content.

I will keep a close eye on it and whether G thinks I know what I am doing or not.
