Hi I don't really know anything about sms marketing but i see people putting celebrities (fake) number up on videos and I'm wondering is this a form of marketing or is just a joke.

Hopefully someone here knows more about this form of "marketing," if it is at all. However, I think it could be both.

You could put the video/phone number behind a content locker so people fill out a CPA to get access, even if then number is fake. I'm not sure this one is possible, but maybe calling the number sort of opts you in to receiving future marketing calls or text messages.

But of course, it could just be some kid who wants to get a laugh. Or maybe he really hates some guy at school, so he posts the phone number online saying it's a celebrities so the guy will get 500 phone calls a day.

I just called a phone number I found that's supposed to be a celeb's, to see if it was really some marketing ploy or not, but I just got a message saying that number is no longer accepting calls. So that tells me it's just some random person's number, and why it was posted, I have no idea.

Yes that's what I was wondering if it was a way for the number to opt in some form of list or something if so that would be genius because a lot of people call those numbers.
