"Small steps make bigger progress".

This is a quote that a good friend of mine came out with today, so all credit goes to him.

However, it is something that I was thinking about beforehand, and also something I was contemplating posting here on Blackhatworld. So after my friend came out with this quote it prompted me to do just that.

How do you get from where you are to where you want to be?

5HgOnpj.jpg

I have posted this in the money-making sub-forum as it can apply to anything whether it's getting further in your career or ranking your amazon affiliate website or getting another client for your offline business. small steps really do make bigger progress and so if you want to achieve anything in life, you have to make sure you have the right mindset.

Don't sit there and wish that you had a higher income, or that you were number 1 or that you had as many clients as your competitor. If you do this then the likelihood is that you will become depressed and never take any action because the things you are looking at are too far away from your current position.

Accept where you are and focus on where you want to be

4GMhBra.jpg

Instead, you have to focus on what you want to achieve (This is basically your dream), always keep that in your mind's eye because that dream is like your compass, it keeps you heading in the right direction.

Next, you have to exercise self-awareness; you have to realise where you are right now. Don't kid yourself into thinking that you are on the brink of success, don't pretend to be something you are not. Be realistic, be self-aware and accept your current situation. This is vital because once you do this, you have two clear points to put on your success map - where you are (Point A) and where you want to be (Point B).

That is super important because if you are not aware of the actual situation, how on earth are you ever going to achieve your goals or get where you want to be?

Use your existing knowledge to create an action plan

TIDVbg4.jpg

Once you have a map of your current location and your desired destination the next step is to create a plan. This plan doesn't have to be complicated - in fact, it's probably best if it's not complicated. It doesn't have to be bulletproof either - if you think like that, once again you will be stuck "on the fence" and you won't be taking action.

Instead, just create a simple plan of action with perhaps 5-10 clear steps that you are going to take. To create these steps, you are simply using everything you know, right now, so don't obsess over how accurate your plan of action is or the likelihood if its success. The important thing is that you create a plan and implement it.

Implement your action plan one small step at a time

oTGexO3.jpg

Don't think in big steps and don't think about receiving massive improvements as a result. If you do this, then often you will become disappointed with the perceived lack of results and you will give up. Often you can have a great plan, but because your expectations are too high, you will give up thinking the plan just did not work. Then, not only do you not get any results but worse, you write off a plan that would have worked perfectly had you given it a little more time.

So the important thing is to stick with your plan, have some faith and confidence in it and in yourself and take one small step after another.

The best plans are the ones that you follow slowly but surely, step by step and the best results are the ones that creep up on you - you think you aren't getting anywhere because you are taking those small steady steps and then "bang" all of a sudden you look back and realise how far you have come.

Assess and adjust your plan

Of course, you will learn as you go along, so periodically you can reassess your efforts, your progress and then adjust your plan accordingly. But don't do this randomly. Instead, have a plan for re-adjusting your plan. This might mean checking your progress once every 3 months and then making adjustments based on results or on what you have learnt in that time.

Progress is progress is progress

They come, an' they quit an' go on; an' every damn one of 'em's got a little piece of land in his head. An' never a God damn one of 'em ever gets it.

l2YOf9I.jpg

We all have dreams; we all want to earn $5 million a year, we all want to be number 1 for "payday loans" and that's fine - the bigger your goals the better because then you have something to work towards. However, if you are currently earning $5/hour working in Mcdonalds and you want to earn $5m/year from affiliate marketing you have to be self-aware and understand there is a big gap between your reality and your dream.

As such, you should look at progress as being relative to your current situation and not relative to anyone else. Even if it takes you 12 months to get out of your $5/hour job and start earning $5/hour working for yourself, that is progress because you have moved from your current situation, a little bit nearer to your dream.

And that's all it takes to get where you want to be - putting one foot in front of the other whilst heading in the direction of your goals. Keep doing that and you will get there.

But remember to enjoy the journey because truly, that is what it's all about.

Thank you for this great piece.

There are times when one feels there's no result for what they're doing, I've been there several times. Knowing things like this, reminds I need to keep going. SLow and steady they say wins the race.

So many people fail to recognize this and truly apply it to their life. Online marketing is a journey, you have to start somewhere and take it day by day. These super affs dont just get successful overnight. One small step and day after day grinding turns into a snowball effect. Cant wait to get my ball rolling :)

I like how you put it. Goal-oriented thinking/working is such a great way to achieve almost anything and it's used a lot in the social sector as well. See where you are, look where you want to be, and draw a plan.

About implementing I'd say from that base that it's important to learn to live in the moment. It's actually something that some need practice with.

Some people live in the past and it's hard to make plans for the future when the important things for you aren't there. Those who live in the future can easily miss what they need to do now and can be over-optimistic about their progress. It's good to live in the moment and commit to the plan, that's how you get things done.

Edit: It's pretty much like that with everything. You buy an old house and see it needs lots of work done. It feels horrible, but after you fix one thing after another you someday notice that you live in a nice house.

1000% true when it comes to programming atleast. The whole job of a project is to take a big problem, and break it down into smaller problems and solve them one by one. It makes sense.

Yes exactly. That side of it I didn’t even cover, but any task or project no matter how big, can be Brocken down into small chunks or modules, then rather than having a big daunting project, you just have one small task at a time.

100%.
I love that way of thinking i think exactly the same way, i just word it differently,
we're constantly looking for 'magic pills' that'll make us millions and get us shredded and help us reach all of our goals in 5 min.
So all of my friends will tell you my fav quote is " consistent action is the magic pill "
They only way to real, long lasting results imo, is being consistent. pick a path and stick to it, day in and day out. put in the work.

Mindset really makes all the difference
If you can't enjoy, the journey, you won't probably enjoy the destination
Great write-up, as always.
