    Hey guys,

I've been reading up about slugs and how they are good for SEO. Now, there is a Wordpress plugin that automatically removes "stop words" (the, to, etc) from your URLs.

I'm targeting 10 keywords on my site, and the keywords are all very similar (these are just examples below):

how to find good hockey equipment
how to find the best hockey equipment
    how to find hockey equipment

Now, if I was to take out stop words using that plug in, a lot of their URLs would be very similar. Would that be good though? Or would I be better off leaving the keyword phrases in their entirety in the URL?

Play around with the list of stopwords that get removed until you find a happy medium between variation in your slugs and lack of irrelevant stop words. Generally true stop words have little to no SEO value so there's no harm in getting rid of them.

    Thanks Autumn! One more question.

Since I've already posted the majority of these articles on my blog, would removing stop words now (which would obviously change the permalink) have any negative SEO effect? If so, what would be the best way to go about changing the permalinks on posts that have already been published?

I wouldn't change your existing permalinks - that will create new urls for all of your posts which will have to be reindexed and reranked. Existing link juice to your existing posts will be lost. If you are really driven to change your old permalinks then you would have to set up a 301 redirect for each post from the old url to the new one. I wouldn't bother, too much tricky effort for not much reward - just enable the shorter slugs for your posts from now on.
