I was wondering if anybody here ocasionally skips domain names out of respect for the previous owner.

I just found a GREAT domain name, but it used to belong to a charity (which is still active).

I decided not to move foreward with this domain.

Do you guys have experience with situations like this?

Any tips on how I could use the domain name without disrespecting the charity?

So if you grab them, what do you do with them?

I usually try to recreate the original site, but I am not ok with faking a charity.

Yeah I've skipped domains because of reasons like that. Found a great one about a dead baby once but didn't feel right...plus it might haunt me. Leave ghost baby shit on my pillow etc.

then try to recreate it using archive.org and let it run. If someone from the charity organisation asks for their website, you could transfer it to them. Although, I have never left an expired domain with good metrics :p

But if you grabbed it, how would you use it?
Nothing wrong with grabbing it, but recreating it and posing as an existing foundation is wrong in my opinion.

Recreate the domain and posing as a charity is insane in my opinion.

It's easy to say not to care and that it is just business, but I do believe in a certain work ethic.

I can't believe that it's so easy for you guys to pose as a existing foundation on their old website.

I would respectfully grab that domain and resell it to someone who would probably take it for a long walk down a dark alley.

Take it, secure it and offer it back as a charitable gesture. Someone would say good Karma will follow...

I mean if you REALLY cared about them, you could register it and 301 it to their facebook page or something.
But, there may be a reason they didn't renew it.

You should register it. then, try to reach out to see if they actually want/need it, so you can use it otherwise.

Leave it there, and anyone else will grab it
