I was listening to a documentary about skid row in usa.

skid row known as zombie people from drugs .

according to USA only 12 beds for the mentally ill with medicare .

but there 1700 on the streets with illness living in tents or lying on the floor.

USA massive, why what that all about ,such a wealthy country.

apparently 4 blocks from skid row, the very rich life.

was shocked.

have you seen this your self ever must be sad and very scary.

Well, life is not for everyone. We are filtered by natural selection. Also, those people weren't born on the streets. Somehow they got there. Usually most of them are those kind of persons that believe in getting rich overnight methods, that ruined them.

Yeah man its pretty sad...

I live like 40 min from there, when I was younger I used to go to a lot of underground electronic parties there....

It's insane how big the problem is here and no real solution in sight. Seems like its getting bigger and bigger.

I think that most people are honestly mentally ill. And most resort to drugs to medicate themselves. The way that these people act with our without drugs, especially in that environment.

In Highschool part of our graduation requirements was to go and volunteer at the Mission. Truly eye opening experience

Was this the video you heard?
(its like 10 years old)

Do you have friends and family that help from time to time , donations and stuff .

I do not, but I believe myself to have a kind heart. If I have the opportunity to help someone I do. Even where I am now (Downtown Longbeach) there is a big issue with homeless too. Its common to literally have to step over them as they are passed out in the middle of the sidewalk.

When I used to take public transit and be out in the city more I would often offer to a meal to those in need, even though most don't take it. I do not like to give away money, as most times you are not helping them.

Homeless people in America ? Buttt , butt .. Ths is richest country .. Unbelievable
In my country people think they all drive UFOs and flying cars in US . And rubbish collectors earn like bank owners
Xd xd

Most homelessness in the US is attributed to severe mental illness. Skid row is a hotbed for people with debilitating diseases and it doesn’t help that many prey on each other. Many of them are in a revolving door of jail and the streets. The silver lining is that the climate is good year-round so at least you don’t find any of them frozen solid on benches like on the east coast.

LA is an interesting place, romanticized in the media but it’s actually a pretty dirty place with a serious problem for the government to deal with. These people can’t take care of themselves and have been ostracized by the community so there’s nowhere else to go... quite sad because for most of them, it’s not their fault.

I moved from Michigan to Southern California 1.5 years ago and it was a HUGE shock! I helped a company who goes out and helps some of the families in tents and the first thing some of the volunteers would ask was if you could choose this or living in a house what would you choose and it was shocking how many people actually said they choose this over moving back home or going to a state they can afford. Almost half! Some would say this was so much less stress and some would say they didn't want the responsibility they had when they lived a normal life. Some used to make so much money and got on drugs and lost it all, its so so sad. the ones that are the hardest fr me are the mentally ill because my heart breaks for them so much.

Like underachieve said, they get on drugs just to numb the mental illness because they have no help or guidance. My nurturing side kicks in and I just wanna give them all warm blankets and food but you have to be very careful in LA because some of the homeless people make more money then I do LOL I had one homeless guy ask me for a quarter then go behind the gas station and pull out a wad of $100's trying to buy this kids bike he wanted, I was like WTF!

Where I lived in Michigan we never had homeless people like this and the homeless people in Detroit always had somewhere to at least hang their head at night so they didn't line the street the way they do in California but you have to take weather into account. I actually had a idea once there was a tech company that wanted to advertise at a event and get these advertising merch like pends and cups and gave out for free and I was like what if we ordered like 200 popup movable tents and put the company logo on the top and gave them to the homeless so then your doing good and your getting the word out as well in the news. I didn't pitch it though because people are in conflict about giving the homeless tents and I don't want the conflict but I still think it would be a great idea.

With all due respect to everyone commented in this thread earlier, it's not always drugs or mental illnesses.

There are certain support services for low income individuals (such as affordable housing, food stamps, various employment/training opportunity programs) while very rich people have enough money to survive no matter what may happen to them.

It's the middle class who is f*ucked.

Imagine you make $50,000 - $150,000 per year. 20% of your income you give to Uncle Sam, 30%+ you spend on housing. You don't have a lot of discretionary income left at the end of the day anyway.

But what if you lose your job or something happens to you and you medical bill is 100's of thousands? You can go from upper middle class to being homeless in no time and no one going to give you two shits about helping you.

I truly believe that success = hard work * luck.

But I also think that misfortune is the same hardwork * bad luck.

We can do everything right, but sometimes life happens and circumstances can be beyond our control.

We can just try to minimize risks and hope for the best...

I'm from California and have been to skid row many times. It's true the bubonic plague is coming back and the homeless and the liberal politicians that don't do anything about them. They basically decriminalized drugs so ppl are literally just shooting up openly in the streets now, throwing their needles everywhere and shitting all over the streets.

The majority of the homeless choose to live on the street compared to living in the shelters, no drugs, there's a curfew, etc. It's getting really bad down there and I don't see an option to fix the situation.

A small portion of the homeless is because of the ridiculous pricing of homes/apartments. Those are the ones that choose to live in shelters.

In case you haven’t noticed, many of the big, liberal cities are going down the drain it seems.
