hi all,

with the Google News update a couple of days back, Google got rid of the need for sites to apply to be included in Google News. Google now say:

'"Publishers no longer need to submit their site to be eligible for the Google News app and website. Publishers are automatically considered for Top stories or the News tab of Search. They just need to produce high-quality content and comply with Google News content policies."

I have checked a couple of my old sites (none of which were accepted into the Google News Program), and if I enter site:xxxxx.xxxx and then check the News tab on google.com I can see a couple of my articles have already been indexed by Google News for these sites.

It might be worth you checking this out, you may find your articles and posts are now indexed by Google News?

Yes, now they destroyed everything. Op if you can post the source?

Edit: Just checked one site, all links are indexed in Google news.

I am so triggered :) I am done for today.

Nice update op
My pleasure. It seems that the News tab is now a highly filtered subset of the general tab and Google are now depending on AI and their Bert technology to filter out what they don't want. They are also killing off the News Bot and I assume the news sitemaps as well.

Not sure if it is for the better or for the worse.

Why I can see my articles On Google news with "site:" but not by using the keywords?

Thanks! I just checked my site and saw that a lot of my pages are indexed in Google News. Great!

Because you don't rank high enough, the site: parameter just shows you that you are in the google news index, but won't be shown for competitive terms if your site is not established.

Haha funny, seems like even my auto blog has been indexed in Google news!

Nice just checked it and my website articles are shown in Google new. Thanks OP

No probs :) basically if it meets the Google news criteria (structured data and amp help) it will get indexed in Google news.
They then use AI and their 'Bert' technology to decide whether to show your content to anyone in their news app but this is very heavily slanted to the big news sites like CNN so dont expect too much.

What I have found though is if I publish an article and use GSC to inspect the URL and request/force indexing, though I get no traffic from the news app itself, I am getting organic traffic for that article within about 20 minutes of it being posted.

What I dont know though is if this applies to all articles indexed or is because my site was in Google News before they made this change?

It only has a DA of about 16 and a PA of about 17 so is nothing to write home about .

Might be worth some experiments

All my posts are indexed in google news, even my contact us page :D

Not sure how google actually considers the worth because my contact us page produces 0 value.

My 2 cent is Google just does not care anymore in terms of filtering out blog contents based on where to show them (all result or news)

They either have merged their news index with general index or they simply gave up on news index.

Cheera,

I agree, they have indexed old content off a site I have up and which they rejected. They seem to be depending on using their algo to surface in the news app what they think will be relevant (not the news tab) and ignoring the rest.

100 articles in Google News now, but it feels like being in Google News is not such a big deal after this update. I mean being able to get into an exclusive smaller subset of highly promoted and accessible articles obviously seems significantly more valuable than being 100 pages out of billions now that include someone's contact page from a few posts up.

Is there really any value in being in Google News now.. a few of my indexed posts are for sure NOT newsworthy.

Glad i came across this update. Would news sites thrive more in terms of traffic volume?
