Sitemap refetching will SEO boost or just create crawl noise?

I’ve noticed some SEOs use "?v=timestamp" on sitemap URL so it generates new timestamp every day, which encourages Google to refetch it.

But does this actually help crawling, or just create new sitemap URLs without improving crawl prioritization?

My concern here is that it doesn’t guarantee that important pages get crawled faster. Google prioritizes URLs based on other crawl signals, so constantly changing the sitemap URL could add noise rather than solve the underlying crawl issue.

For important pages, I’d focus on internal linking, accurate lastmod, crawlability, canonical signals, and keep sitemap clean.

Has anyone seen or tried this?

I don't believe changing the sitemap URL again and again will bring any significant SEO enhancement. Better to keep sitemap clean and focus on internal linking, lastmod properly and crawlability.

I’d keep the sitemap URL stable. Changing it daily won’t force priority crawling and can just add noise. Clean sitemap, correct lastmod, and strong internal links matter more.

Changing the sitemap URL with a timestamp is unlikely to provide a meaningful seo boost, google can recrawl the sitemap, but that doesn't mean it will crawl or prioritize the pages faster, accurate lastmod, strong internal links, clean caconicals & good crawlability are much more useful

Your concern is valid. Changing the sitemap URL with a daily timestamp isn't an SEO boost and isn't something I'd recommend.

Google treats sitemaps as a hint, not a crawl command, and specifically advises against repeatedly submitting unchanged sitemaps
I'd keep a stable sitemap URL and focus on accurate <lastmod>, strong internal links, crawlability, canonicalization, and making important pages easy to discover. Google can use accurate lastmod information when deciding what has changed.
