Curious if anyone knows anything about this phenomena. I do a search for "site:www.domain.com" and get back all the indexed pages "www.domain.com/page" but not "www.domain.com".

Yup doesn't show up for either. I should probably add that this was an old ass 90s style site with table based markup - ported it to wordpress saving as much of the ghetto table markup as possible, now it looks like the homepage has dropped from index. 301'd all old urls to new urls as well, actually when I check it's got all the old pages in the index nothing from the new revamp - maybe some kind of refresh?

Had the same issue with a well SEO'd site a few months ago. After I sent Google a reconsideration request (thinking that they blacklisted the page) Google responded that there was no issue.

Homepage came back soon thereafter. Still have no idea why it disappeared in the first place. [pun intended]

Thanks for the update, still same condition as I originally posted. I'll give it a few days and try that out if nothing happens..

    ***UPDATE***

So I figured out the problem, and I gotta update it here so that I never forget this. I was working some long hours/little sleep and I had totally forgotten to change the privacy setting in Wordpress.. so my homepage had a noindex, nofollow in the header the whole time duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh
