I've got a site that is about 8 years old. It has a great reputation, about 15K UV a month (100% organic). I've got adsense on there, but it only makes about $100/month. I've got a facebook page, about 300 fans, some twitter followers, and a few hundred email subscribers.

I would like to make a bit more money with this site, and I think it is possible with the amount of traffic we get.

Recently, we did an IndieGoGo campaign for our book, got $2,700 (didn't reach our goal, tho), which was pretty good, and got us a lot of new visitors and press.

I would really like to get some banners or sponsors on the site to generate some extra income. I would be willing to do a JV with someone, and split the profit, if they could help.

    Any ideas?

The site is velacreations.com, if you want to take a look.

I think you need to redesign the site(convert it to WP) with better ad placements and your earnings can be maximized.

    I earn 80$/month from adsense on a site which gets 4k uniques/month

well, WP doesn't do what I need for this site. It is in Joomla, which I prefer for a site with this much content (300+ pages) and advanced functionality.

ad placement could be improved, for sure, but I don't want to cheapen the content by plastering ads everywhere. What sort of placements would you suggest?

I think there might be some potential for some banner ads with related vendors, or possibly vendor recommendations or something like that. Some of our sections have a very loyal following, so I think with the right vendor and placement, it could convert well.

    What do you think?

1 banner or text ad above the fold or off to the side (text ads) would be nice. You can incorporate a nice look for the "sponsor" section. Just depends on your keyword and the current cpc adwords or another network has attached to it. If it is low, you might want to use CPA offers matched up to your target niche. Hope that helps.

I've got text ads on the right, and they perform well.

The sponsor section could be very cool, with a regular personal recommendation from us with info on their products, etc.

    What are CPA offers?

Cost Per Action offers. You can find them in different networks examples: peerfly, maxbouthy, etc.

you really need to re-do that design. so much space has been wasted on this design it's almost a sin. First you have to figure out what your site is really about. if you want this to be a blog, then get a theme which maximizes your page-views. try to get as much content as you can on hoempage and get rid of excess styling etc. Add more add units especially one just below the blogpost title.

PM me if you are looking for other ways of monetization and wanna JV or something

Place a banner ad on the top. Your Adsense is on the sidebar. You can place some Adsense where your user are reading, like a small text/pic ad on the top left on of the articles. This should lead to more clicks. :D

part of the deal behind the design is that people come to us based on our reputation and style. They don't come to us to see a cheap blog filled with ads. They come for the information and quality content.

Some people will see it as wasted space, but I disagree (I am not the designer). I see it as appropriately used space. I am not interested in filling the space top to bottom with ads. I am interested in keeping and building a quality experience for our users, which gets us the traffic. Cheapen that, and we lose the traffic. It is far more important for our users to be able to find the content they need.

This isn't a blog. It is more of a webzine. Most of our traffic goes to specific articles, not through the home page.

I'll test out an ad on top of the article. The ads on the right are the best performers, links in the text are 2nd, bottom ads 3rd.

ok, I dropped in an ad on the top of the content, right above the title. We'll see how it converts. I'll leave it for a month, and compare to the others.

I'll explore some other avenues for sponsorship, rather than adsense, though. I think there could be a really nice partnership with a few content-related sponsors that would work out good for everyone.

For example, we have a lot of instructional articles. People want to know where to buy the materials for the project. Our materials lists and a personal recommendation could go to a specific sponsor on those articles. That would convert really well for purchases.

Even better would be if a sponsor could put together a "kit" for their store based on some of our articles. Those could sell really well (we used to sell kits for a few of our articles, sold 150 $100 kits in 3 months, until our supplier ran out of parts.

Other opportunities might be for information sites that have related content. That should convert well for clicks.

I guess the trick here is contacting and talking with potential sponsors, something I am not very good at doing.
