    Hi,

I completly understand that BHW likes to sent out a message to users who are using ADblocker while browsing the board. Thats cool and I got that of course. But, why does this message not dissappear after pressing "X" ?

Every single time I am realoding BHW (starting page) or access my private messages -> Every single time this new popup window appears, which is not cool to see. Also, it should be in my own decicion if I would like to turn my adblocker off or on. So, could we please turn this perma popup off ? It should be enough when you click the "X" one time. No reason to force people to click it permanently until they might turn adblocker off right.

Adblocker is restricting some users from getting notifications and causing other issues on the forum. It looks like it's not totally been set up yet but this is just to let users know.

There is also no real reason to run adblocker, all the adverts you see on BHW are relevant to the content BHW offers. We run our own advertising so you're not going to get Google ads, Facebook ads or be re-targeted at all elsewhere on the internet from being here.

Okay, so the only solution to fix this perma error message is to turn my adblocker off right ? Well, okay then let me turn it off. :)

I'm not 100% sure how it will work, but I would assume so.

    Yeah...

I run the white theme. Also continually getting this pop-up with ever new tab I open. Tried disabling my ad blocker to see how it looked, immediately had to deal with five distracting banner ads. Shit, I disabled signatures from view for this very reason.

I understand the reasoning behind this, and completely understand the nature of advertising on an internet marketing forum, but I (and many others) pay $97 a year to this forum. We should have the option to disable persistent ads without the fear of consistent pop-ups.

I hope this turns into a "just once upon login" thing instead of an "every move you make" thing.

Lets wait until it's fully set up before we poop on the idea already.

The advertising is sold per space AFAIK, it's not impression based so the motive is not money.

We have several key features of the site that don't work when users run adblock, that's all.

Every breath you take, every move you make, I'll be popping up...

Still can't decide if I prefer the nagging banner or the distracting ads...

    Fair enough.

Also worth noting that the persistent pop-up stopped happening after clicking close on it a few times. I may have jumped the gun on that one. I fear too much change (I was strongly against the move to Xenforo at first, but now I love it haha).

    BHW - of course.

@Finn thanks for pointing this out. This is new today we're optimising it for best use - so you may see some changes.

Ad Blockers not only stop ads they also stop notifications and core interactions showing on BHW. So by running an ad blocker you're not getting the full BHW experiance, support then get a lot of complaints that the notifications have gone away when really they are being stopped by the AdBlocker.

We'll be adjusting the ad blocker intensity and posting more about this over next few days.

@Diamond Damien Thank you very much for your response and also for taking action in personal here. Thats actually really cool and I respect you for that.

However, I just turned the adblocker off to see how it goes. Well, BHW is now full of animated ads for me on the top, sidebar and bottom..

By fact, this is something I really do not enjoy. I just dont wanna see all those animated banners you know. I prefer to have a clean site in front of me.

So, in my case I have turned adblocker on again. Looking forward to some awesome updates in regard to this perma popup. :)

@Finn "Full of Ads" bit OTT? ;) But I hear what you're saying and understand that the many different and awesome products on BHW can be a distraction - but they can also be great for your monetisation methods and often represent the most successful and relevant products on the site.

    To summarise our ad offering-
    1. We have 12 banner ad positions in total about 4 are animated not forgetting all the marketplace products.
    2. All ads are curated and reviewed for accuracy before being added.
    3. We in-house all our advertising so you're never going to see agency ads for irrelevant items like flights constantly popping up. We're all about relevant advertising on BHW. We get about 5 requests a day from the ad companies - Always rejected (Ad co's please note - ALWAYS)
    4. It's of course your choice to use an AdBlocker but without Ad revenue there wouldn't be a BHW (Servers, DDOS and support are all expensive for 20 million + visitors a year). Fortunately the majority of our members are happy to run without ad blockers. Industry wide we're of course aware that ad supported content is diminishing. We're proud that our web-savvy members support the forums advertisers by choosing not to use their AdBlockers and get the most out of BHW when doing so.
    5. The forum is still functional with an adBlocker installed - but to get the most out of BHW you need to let us in - just a little - and in return you get a better BHW experiance through notifications and forum engagement.

Ads can be annoying - we get it - but try and promote only the most relevant products.

Maybe some middle way would be possible, like a small sponsor membership at $12 per year, with the only benefit being able to turn of ads. Don´t know how much money you loose on ad-blockers, but it´s just getting more over time I guess .. Well just an idea, where people like myself that do not need the $97 membership and use ad-blocker would definitely buy a small and cheap sponsor membership instead of using ad-blocker to support the forum.

Just my 2 cents of idea .. you know best how to monetize the forum with all stats off it .. =)

@Diamond Damien I thought a lot about what you said today specially about your point but without Ad revenue there wouldn't be a BHW (Servers, DDOS and support are all expensive for 20 million + visitors a year)

Well, to be honest I havent seen it from this kind of view and I think it was perhaps a bit rude to even ask about the popup there. Sorry about that.

I would like to make things right again and tell you that I am browsing BHW without an ADblocker from now on. :)

I dont get it. I have an adblocker installed but never saw this. Or ever had any trouble with notifications come to think of it. Is it a problem specific to a certain plugin?

I run ublock origin, WebRTC, Privacy Badger and many other privacy ins and ad blockers. I have never seen the message you complain of. If I did, then I would turn off javascript, and if that became a hassle, I would never see BHW again.

The problem is not really ads, but ads as a malware vector.

I'm using chrome browser with ADGuard and also have roughly 20,000 sites blocked on my host file and I have not gotten a single popup about an adblocker. I use the white theme btw.

I whitelist BHW on my adblocker as a way to support BHW and don't you wanna see them titties?
