From my WP site that I haven't checked in a couple weeks I have 30+ emails about failed logins and resulting lockout for my account.

They're sent from Ithemes security plugin, I'm wondering whether they're real hacking/bruteforcing? attempts, or whether there's some kind of bug generating all these site lockout alerts.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

    appreciate any help

I also have the same experience. I don't know if they are real hack or just trying login with guessing.

But a few years ago, I have a tld blog with hosting that I didn't maintain. No plugin, no update articles...nothing. And before it expired, I checked it, the blog content change

You can change the setting in ithemes so it won't email you at every lockout. I always do or I get too many notifications of lockouts.

They are usually bots trying to login as the generic "admin".

I have my itheme settings to automatically lockout anyone/anything that tries "admin" as username and I set ithemes not to email me notifications or I'd get 50 per day sometimes.
