Alright, so I've been working on a niche site recently, I'd say medium to high competition. I've been fairly careful, drip feed most links (lots of private blog posts).

I've been ranking between #8 and #12 ish for the last few weeks, bouncing around occasionally.

I have some more high PR blog posts being dripped over the next 30 days (started a week ago).

As of yesterday, I noticed one of my keywords (the main one I'm targeting) has dropped significantly, when I check with Market Samuai and RankTracker. It's weird, because I clear cookies, history, everything, and search manually on Google, and my site is still where it usually is. But get this, a few times when I've checked (again, cleared everything), my site is no where to be found. But when I check 20 minutes later, it's back there.

I've also checked using a few online SERP checkers, and they show my site where it should be.. So I'm kind of panicking now.

Does this seem like the G dance, or more like a penalty? And why are these softwares showing the ranking at like #250, while manually it shows up at #8 and such?

Okay, wtf, I just checked with RankTracker, and it's back at #11. I think I may be panicking over nothing. What do you guys think?

What else are you doing beyond private blogposts?

    Hey thedon!

I know a bit more about what site you are talking about and just did the research you are ranked.

    #6
    #9

you're fine probably... assuming you're doing this all properly google won't punish you for it.

As someone else checked, I'd say it's an anomalous instance

    One last thing.

Your site is fairly new, so a G dance is not uncommon for it :)

I've been seeing a lot of volatility in Google's SERPs lately.

Like you I'm seeing a ton of fluctuations between days, here are a few
    screenshots of that....

While those are only a few, I've seen that with many other keywords.

Sure I've seen this in the past, but in the past few weeks I've been
seeing more drastic changes across the board.

How is your traffic day to day? Have you seen it plummet? If it is the same then you have nothing to worry about. It sounds like you might be checking your rankings too much for your own sanity.
