I used an expired domains to build a new money site 3 months ago. It ranked well immediately without additional backlinks because it was a fine domain with a strong backlink profile.

Since then I have built some good links to my target page (inner page). The backlinks are strong - some web2.0 and PBN links. At the beginning the ranking improved a bit. But after a month the ranking began to drop slowly. Nothing dramatic but 1-2 spots each weak although I keep building links and the keyword is not too competitive.

I was very successful with the same backlink strategy before but I have never used it on an expired domain as money site so far!

My ideas what I made wrong:

    1) it looks weird that most of the new links go to an inner page. I also made some links to home and other inner pages. But especially the strong PBN links go to my main inner page
    2) a bit too aggressive with anchors. I mostly used branded anchor text but still it might be a bit too much

    my questions

    1) should I build more links to home and the other pages as well?
    2) should I change the anchor text of the links I already built (make the anchors less aggressive) or should I leave them as know and build more links with generic / branded anchor text to dilute the old anchors?
    3) or should I just wait and do nothing?

    Excited for your ideas!

It could be that the rankings are just settling to their true positions. Penalized sites usually tank in rankings dramatically. 1-2 drops in ranking is pretty normal I believe.

You said you were successful on this backlinking strategy before and only used an expired domain as a money site now. That could be the issue. Did you check the expired domain thoroughly?

I'd recommend waiting for a few more weeks and see if the rankings settle. If they continue dropping, try re-evaluating your anchor text ratios.

Certainly I was not penalized but the links I built are that strong: The ranking MUST increase unless google says nono for some reason.

I built the same type of links with big success for other moneysites. But these moneysites were not build from expired domains. The domain I used is 100% clean. It was a non-commercial site with a few really good links. There was not one single spammy link.

I heard that you should not change anchor text from less aggressive to more aggressive. How about more aggressive to less aggressive?
