Looking at the video it doesn’t really tell that much. Something about different AI programs being available and open source but unable to communicate with each other and that with Singularity you can make it happen. So it is an api?
Also, and this is my personal believe, AI is not going to lead to “technical” singularity in the very near future.
A.t.m. singularity is going the way of AI research in the 1980’s. Lot’s of money gets invested, big promises made, but still we can only “analyse” very large datasets.* But that is not AI.
* (Alphabet, MS, and admittedly quite a few others too.)
But since AI sounds way more impressive then machine learning, we let people believe that we are allready using AI. (Both RankBrain and TensorFlow are “machine learning” algorithms and not (True) AI.)
Sometime we give it a cool name (RankBrain) but in reality we fuck up rankings because of an error with outlier detection.
And sometimes things start leading their own live and we have absolutely no idea how come (E.g. the 2010 Flash Crash, MS’s Tay, who started to love Hitler.)
Are we making progress? Sure. As a matter of fact it is possible to create systems and programs that pass The Turing Test with flying colors.
But even with this it still goes to far to claim that these system or programs are “contious” and can think for themselfs.
Are these systems and programs capable to make rudemetary decisions based on information? Yes, but bacteria make decision all the time too. But these are made soley based on the specific enviroment that a bacteria finds itself in, combined with the information it carries with it (the way that mother nature actually programmed it, the DNA and RNA.)
The only (valid) conclusion left is that processing and decision making are happening at speeds that are incredible difficult to comprehand for laymen. A good analogy is thinking about the universe and try to imagine the vast distances between different object in our universum.
Will Technical Singularity happen in the future? Yes, but not in the next decenium, or two, or three.
It will take at least another 50-70 years before Skynet will come alive and take over and start killing every IM’er first and then the rest of humanity.
My 2 cents.* If any one got another or opposing view on this topic I am eager to read it.
*excuse my explanation. Atm I am on mobile and this combined with my dislectia wont allow me to express my thoughts and views in the best way possible, so I am opting for the reductionist view and big leaps between subjects and examples in an effort to get my point across.
