So I built two sites and never siloed them, how important is it for SEO ranking purposes? Does it make a difference if you onpage is on point, have lots of articles and good internal and external links? How much of a difference have you noticed with siloing a site?

Incredibly important for siloing them because of internal site structure when Google reads the code. Also breadcrumbs in the URL I would assume if you are not using them could be utilized as well. Hope this helps.

Its recommended but not necessary if you already have good rankings for your pages.

Not necessary at all. If your sites do not contain totally different niches like "cats" and "cars", then you really don't have to bother with Silo. Just structure your site well. Also, term "silo" is being used very wildly around here.

I have never done it, I might consider it if I was planning a large site

I think Siloing your site is not really necessary if your site is not that large. It's pretty much needed for large sites that are composed of different niches. If your site is well-structured and has good rankings then I don't see the need for it.

As the others point out, it depends on your site size and topics/themes covered. Your internal linking structure also matters.

If your website is ranking, there is no competition for your keyword and good content on website then silo is not required.
