I've reading some articles about silo architecture, and all of them look a little aged :)

What do you think? is it worth it to create a silo architecture in these days?

For example, I've a little client from my own city in argentina, it's a real state broker. So, I could use first level url to rentals and sells:

    /rental_houses
    /rental_departament
    /sell_houses
    /sell_department
    /sell_building

or I can do something like:

    /rentals/
    /rentals/houses
    /rentals/department

    /sell/
    /sell/houses
    /sell/department
    /sell/building

What do you think? wich one is better?

    Thanks for you opinions

I've read posts that say siloing is out, but I've looked around and yet to see anything to back it up, really. The most substantial article I've found on the subject is here:

    Code:

Ironically, they package some wordpress widgets to allow you to build silo structures into your site.

Personally, I think it makes for a cleaner structure that is easier for spiders to follow. I don't believe it will hurt you in the rankings, but there is still debate on whether it will help you in the rankings.

And what about siloing the link structure while leaving all interntal pages as first level url?
