    Hello,

I've been a lurker for quite some time and have read with enthusiasm many of the threads ranging from white to blackhat. I think the creativity of techniques shared and utilized is what really sets this forum apart from others like it. People aren't afraid to try new things and break the mold of acceptable practice. In that way forging new paths is almost guaranteed.

So let me begin by saying that i am a designer. A severely unsuccessful one. My graphic design is not the issue however, it's finding clients and getting paid. I've worked for quite a few people over the years but I have not been able to build a base, get constant work, or expand like other designers. In this way it's a famine or feast type of income. I can't deal with that anymore. I need basic things. A house of my own, to be able to afford a car, not having to count change at the end of the month for groceries... I need to do better. I need to be better.

So I have decided to take action. My life sucks so I need to change it and this forum seems like a place where people are trying to do that all the time. I'm done doing things conventionally because all that's gotten me is screwed. Screwed by clients. Screwed by part time jobs to fill the income void, and screwed by a system built to reward unmotivated "born-withs" rather than the hard working "born-withouts"

    So here I am.

I am not only a designer, I am extremely internet savvy. I am as many of you say a "newbie" when it comes to making a good income online, because well, I can't seem to make an income. It just always seems so unreal to me because I've never been able to do it. I intend to change that. So any tips you guys want to give me are welcome. I have virtually no startup cash for any endeavors but I have a lot of time on my hands. Maybe I'll start a journey thread? i just need to find where that is in the forums.

First thing's first: since you are a freelance designer - work on your profiles on the top freelance sites (odesk comes to mind) - take those tests, add as many skills as possible, start from a minimal wage per hour to build up a portfolio - find the best guy over there and mark him as competitor - see what he is doing, see how he is doing it, and start doing it better.

It all comes down to - having a place where people are interested in what you have to offer (CHECK)
having the ability to deliver (CHECK)
HAVING THE ABILITY TO CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY (PENDING)

    Good luck
