Been doing SEO for two years now and decided to experiment with some black hat stuff. Keep reading So about 2 months I found a niche within automotive that I wanted to tackle. Found a great keyword with 40k searches globally and low comp (used market samurai). I then purchased an ALMOST exact match domain name by adding an X on it. Example, instead of greatdomain.com it was greatdomainx.com. Great way to get exact match domains that rank. Probably shouldn't give that up here, but enjoy. Anyhow, I set up a wordpress site with this domain and set the home page as a static page and optimized that page's content with the keyword I wanted to rank for. And since I wanted to try some black hat stuff I went crazy with xrumer blasts, buying edu links, blogroll links, guest posts, article marketing, press releases. Pretty much everything but scrapebox blasts. The site hit position 4 on page one for it's main keyword for about a week and then got completely deindexed in G. So, I said screw it, I'll just buy another hosting account ( bought with another hosting company) and buy the exact match domain in .org and transfer the template and content over there and whitehat this one. So I did, and for the hell of it I went ahead and linked to the deindexed domain using SEO smart links plugin and and took most of the keywords I was trying to rank for and deep linked those to the deindexed domain as well. The .org version was set up as a blog style, no static home page. Well, the once deindexed site showed back up in big G and ranks better than before as well as my .org version with the same content ranks on page one too. So now I have two sites on page one of big G for my main keyword with the same content. Weeks later, my .org version is getting 10 times the traffic and I have yet to do any SEO on it. This just goes to prove that niche sites are all about keyword research and content. And the so called off page dup content is not a huge issue, at least in the short term. It also goes to show that linking to relevant content from your own website is a definite positive.
