There's more to ranking than just backlinks and keywords. If your site goes viral, get 100,000 views in 2 days, you will temporarily outrank anyone. The niche that I am in has a CPC of $100. You can get an idea of the SEO competition that I might've faced. I wrote this blog post and it goes viral, within the next 15 hours I am up at 5th position for this premium keyword (my DA at that time was 10). This lasted upto 25 days, and went away after that.

Initially I thought, well Google fucked up for my good. But, I repeated this experiment, got viral again, my rankings were high. I did this for a year and realized that this leads to short term rankings.

Point being, you can overcome ranking barriers, but they are not permanent. Any single page site that ranks for a keyword can be easily outranked with a proper site structure that has a very high topical relevance.

Also, these one pagers are called Microsites. I've launched a lot of them, but yes, better be safe than sorry. :)

Well my plan is to build a kick-ass site with a ton of content before I get backlinks to kick up my SEO a bit. I know there is more to SEO than keywords and backlinks but I’m new so I don’t know what that more is lol but yeah once I have a ton of content, I’d want to get some backlinks to help with traffic and hopefully people will keep coming back after (hopefully) I don’t expect to keep my ranking on google forever lol but just to get it up there to get more traffic.

Nice, do give a shot but nothing comes easy especially free..

My guess is you understood the niche well, why not go "grey" first should budget be of concern?

    Cheers,
    C.

Yes, at the very least do on page seo, you may get a ton of niche traffic from some random keyword that you're not even aware of yet and then can monetize.

I'm not really sure how to approach the "grey" technique. I was doing some reading on it earlier and it sounds like it's more expensive than "blackhat" techniques? At the moment I have no backlinks or rankings on google and my budget for SEO for the next few months is $200 which is why I'm relying on purchasing either an SEO package or just link building. I feel the social networking will be good free marketing for me at least until I can increase my budget.

Is there a way I can check those "random keyword" that I may be getting niche traffic? I see I'm getting only a handfull of organic traffic but I can't find out what they're searching to help me determine some of the random keywords right now.

    Heya,

"Grey" could be affordable, read more buddy.

1 Tip: Ask your vertical/horizontal competitors on link ex-changes, basic communications.

    Many More Ways,
