Should I work on my old niche site or start from scratch?

I'm new here, and I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

So pretty much this is the story: I started a niche site last year for the sake of trying it out, without much knowledge in SEO. I'm still not a pro at SEO, but after reading up some topics here I have a better understanding of it and ways to improve on it.

I shut it down for about half a year due to host issues and lack of time. I restarted it last month, with minimal work/articles. I have two articles on it now, and it gets about 30-50 visitors a day without any effort on my part. (I've been slacking off, my views used to range in the 100-200s when I first relaunched.) I'm sure if I put the time into it I could get a lot more. My visitor count usually triples when I market it on social networking sites too. Aside from that, I'm thinking of adding a forum to it in order to keep members active and have it grow.

    Any thoughts?

Right now my niche site ranks on google page 4-5 based on my keyword, so I'm thinking I should keep it and try to improve my page rating using back links. Would this be a good idea?

I believe it used to be PR 1 around when I initially started, but now it's down to PR 0. Also, what does PR really account for?

I'm thinking since it shows up on page 4-5 on google, I could bring it up to page 1 fairly easily and then go from there. Any thoughts on this, or am I just wasting my time with it?

    Thanks.

It would probably be easier to continue working on your old site since it's probably aged which I hear is good for seo.

How many exact searches per month do you have for your keyword ?

You start building a rocking chair. Half way into it, you stop working on it. You finally decide to do some woodworking again. Are you going to make a new chair?

It's better to work on what you already have because you already have it going. Finish what you started first. :D

    Good luck.

Keep going at what you already had, put a couple of months work into it, building backlinks everyday. Learn new methods of backlinking and apply them to your site. You will gradually get where you want to be.

I think you pretty much answered your own questions with your post. Do what has been working for you. IM is not a set and forget business model. One has to work it...

I honestly don't know. I don't think my stat tracker is accurate. I get around 1500-2000 visitors a month, but it says I only get 20-30 based on my keyword. I just found out about Google Analytics, would that help me determine keyword searches better?

And to everyone else, thanks for the encouragement, I'll be working on it from now on. I'll also post a success story and tips if I succeed. :D

Yes, definitely put G Analytics on every single one of your pages to see which keywords are sending you traffic.
