A future project maybe. I myself am tempted and am experimenting with an entry level Compute Engine (Vps on Google Cloud Platform / GCP).

Yeah, exactly ! You're paying for your VPS + server setup and updates + control panel basically. To anyone it would look like a shared hosting with SSH access. Have fun on DO! Let us know how the one click "cyberpanel droplet" goes.

To be honest I saw that myself but I already have 4 websites on my cyberpanel and I can add as many as I like. So I don't know what that's about?

Cyberpanel is open source (that's what you download/install on your server). When you go to pricing on their website, it's Cyberpanel Enterprise, hosted.

Wondering if you're using scheduled backup on Cyberpanel or paid backup by DO ($1 per month)? As regular backup is important as well.

I'd strongly recommend having it on your app/website level or on Cyberpanel. (I have it as a plugin in Wordpress, not sure if it's ideal speed wise) If you have a lot of clients/websites to backup (10+), I'd recommend a management panel such as iControlWP ($) or mainWP that integrates with free backup plugins.

DigitalOcean's backup or snapshot is more like a last resort if you have to reset your entire VPS or if you want to make a copy of your server.

Ah, if on site, I always use Updraft Plus as its lightweight & free. Will look into mainWP. Thanks. At least 2 backup options in case the other one failed.

Wow, must say mainWP Free Dashboard is just enough to manage site plugins & themes.
Moving to D.O + Managing with mainWP definitely are saving lots of $ & time.

right now have several shared host and just recently got digital ocean. Digital ocean is light years ahead of my other providers in terms of speed but the thing is, i will probably be switching for the sole reason that their customer support is shit, takes days to get a response and the fact that they do offer phone service. if my site goes down who the hell am i gonna call to help me get it back up?

I am not techy so having somebody to call is a must for me

Yeah, I guess people call D.O hosting for developers for a reason. That's almost everything you need to handle yourself first, that's a trade-off for better price.
I just switched back again to Cloudways, some of my sites was down within 2 days and I couldn't find the problems.
Scared of losing revenue, so I'd like to pay $5 extra to have better customer support to handle technical things. It's hard to be one-man team with many tasks on hand. Still, really wanna have enough tech skills to use D.O hosting.
