Whats up men, have a question:

I bought a good old blog relevant to my niche and want to build some nice links to my money site now.

However, this blog is hosted on blogspot. I think a blog has always more power/authority in G when it selfhosted.

Should I buy a domain and move it to my own hosting services or just leave it on blogspot?

Keep it as it is... If you move the blog from blogspot.com to your custom domain and hosting.. all the authority is lost.

BlogSpot blogs rank very well and quite quickly too. You would probably be better off starting another self hosted blog and running both of them rather than moving away from BlogSpot.

Don't let go of the BS blog if you can help it.

it depends on your type of niche (BH should always use self hosted)

Based on the OP, I assume the blogspot blog is not built on a custom domain but instead on the blogspot subdomain assigned to all Blogger blogs. Based on my assumption, I advise that you don't buy a new domain and that you don't switch to a self-hosted blog as there is no way you can transfer the authority of the blogspot subdomain to a new domain if you move to a self-hosted platform.

However, you can still transfer the authority of the subdomain to a new domain if you map it to the blogspot blog, but that would require that you leave the blog hosted on Blogger.

In conclusion, you can map a new domain to the blogspot blog, but you shouldn't move it.

Trying to understand you, are you saying that the blog is a TLD hosted on blogger blog? if yes and it's ranking, then don't touch it. But i would recommend a monthly backup of your files

You could always have two, one on blogspot and another self hosted provided they are totally different from one another.

Since your blog is hosted on Blogspot, you do not own the website. Even if you get a TLD, you will still not own the website. If you plan on using Blogger, which is a Google product, for link building or anything that is against Google and Blogger's TOS (this also includes using your blog primarily as a way to make money), just know that Google can delete your Blogspot website at any moment because you violated their TOS.

    Suggestion:
Since you do not currently have a domain and your website is hosted on Blogger, I would suggest self-hosting another website with a TLD while managing the Blogger website. This way, you can keep your traffic from your Blogspot website and direct them over to the self=hosted website when it's appropriate.

    Alternative:
An alternative to this, especially if the new website will be identical to the old Blogspot website, is to create a self-hosted Wordpress website and 301 redirect each individual page to a similar page on the new website. This will tell the search engines that you have permanently moved the webpage to a new address and they will index it accordingly. This also saves you from receiving a duplicate content penalty on your new website.
