Should I pay for or manually get backlinks?

So I got really discourged today,

I check out my competitors backlinks for my niche using blacklinkwatch.com, and from what I understand about seo, to even get onto the first page of google for my keyword I need almost 300 backlinks (to match my competitors).

This seems really discouraging and difficult to achieve as I only have 18 so far. I know nothing in life is a walk in the park, if I want success I must work hard but would achieving 300 high pr backlinks be very hard for someone without experience to get himself? I've tried to find sites for backlinks and many are forcing me to pay them a fee ranging anywhere from $5-50 USD which is very costly, thats like paying anywhere from $1500 - 15,000!.

If I did do it myself how long would it take? Would I be able to black hat my way to page 1 with high competition like this? Im thinking maybe I should pay but how much would a paid service cost?

300 backlinks is really nothing. Why do they have to be high PR?

Grab some web 2.0 backlinks, comment on blogs, forums, etc etc... plenty of ways to get 300 backlinks in no time.

Well I am making an assumtion that they are high pr backlinks as my competitor has made over 1.6 million in revenue during the past year. This is just a guess anyway I do not know for sure.

I have a way better product then they do aswell, my service is indepently tracked, has a very good record but I am having trouble getting it out to the public.

300 compared to 18 is alot. I think its better to pay somebody a bit for links than waste time/do bad job.
I can shoot you even 1k backlinks in one night

Hmm, this is what I am thinking too. I dont want to ruin my rep with google. The only problem is my dad paid some company 3 grand to do some seo for his site and they ran off with the money so im really worried that it would happen to me too.

Don't pay anyone, I wish I hadn't spent my money on backlinks back in the day.

Get the blog commenter from my sig, this will help you get lots of good links. You could pump out 300 in a couple of days EASILY.

Some other web2.0 properties can be very helpful like Digg, propeller and the like. Don't get too preoccupied with social bookmarking sites though, find some good ******** or high PR places to post your link link wikipedia, forums and the like.

You should be able to get your 300 links in no time BUT you won't see your SERPs increase to top position as those links don't have age. Get the links then get some more. In a month or so spend a few more days getting more links till you have more like a K, that is when you will start dominating your SERPs.

Don't forget about mixxing up the anchor texts to target other search terms other than the obvious short tail (high competition) keywords/phrases.

Agreed do not pay anyone, jimbobo's blog commenting tools is great and if you have money to pay someone i would invest in BMD instead for easy social bookmarks if you have many sites.

    Prstorm, from this thread:

    Code:
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo-tools/9494-prstorm-works.html
    d/l link:

Note: I have not used Prstorm. I believe the best tools are worth paying money for (for example XRumer).
