Pretty much just as the title states, I want to know what you guys think about nofollowing my tag pages, category pages, and the privacy policy page as well.

    Thanks.

While this used to be 101 type of stuff, recently Matt C, and others, have talked about the negative impacts PR shaping can have, and the fact that big G is weighting pages/linkluv based on all links on the page and not just the ******** ones.

It won't hurt and it might help with getting your new post/pages indexed quicker.

No, don't nofollow those pages. They all give you nice links back to your other pages.

If you have like a gazillion tags I think it's not a horrible idea to add no follow to them. That was one of the things I did recently to a site of mine and I saw a jump in rankings from doing it. I can't say it was the only thing as I did build a decent amount of back links but I don't think it hurt any to add nofollow to those tags.

Well the idea is to sculpt the flow of PR throughout my site. But I have mixed feelings about nofollowing anything on the site but outgoing affiliate links. On one hand I usually don't need to worry about this - but in this niche the competition is very competitive and they really know what their doing. They don't post their tags in their posts so maybe I should take mine out as well. Either that or nofollow - I'm just not 100% sure yet.

I would not get too caught up in overthinking this, just keep adding unique content to your site and building backlinks. No one knows for sure all the details as to how the search engines calculate the ranking. One thing I have learned recently is that the most important thing for SEO is backlinks and maybe unique content (I am still researching the unique content thing).

    Home Page:
I would say yes to no!!follow any page that is 3 or more clicks removed from the home page AND any page where goal conversion does not occur. Long tail was crushed by caffiene and instant. Bolster your short tail pages and homepage whenever possible and find clever ways to link build your longtail pages in bulk externally... make sure they do!!follow to your short tail pages.

Keep in mind that long tail pages typically serve two functions. 1st they are conversion pages like product detail pages in an online store where people add to cart and proceed to checkout. 2nd they are organic entry points for keywords your home page doesn't target. Treat them like that and in that order of priority.

I don't think you should NoFollow them. Your tag/category pages will show up for certain keywords you probably aren't targeting which can bring a good amount of traffic. Duplicate content is not an issue here, especially if the text is summarized. It's unnecessary to do so.
